Baby crying during breastfeeding - any advice gratefully received

Hello
My five month old is now crying every time I breastfeed him. He is fine for the first five minutes, very happy, and then cries because he has wind. I then have to keep burping him every 20 seconds or so (or trying to burp him!). It is not fun and I am getting pretty down about it. I didn't want to stop breastfeeding yet, and it's not that he doesn't want to feed, it is obviously just giving him a bad tummy. It started soon after I gave him solids, so I don't know if they are connected. Does anyone have any advice? I have no idea what to do, but as he has had recently had a very bad cough, would prefer to breastfeed for a bit longer. I don't think he is getting enough milk because of it, and, having had him weighed yesterday, was told that he has gone down a percentile.
If you have any advice/help, I would be very grateful.
Thanks

You could stop the solids for a few days and see if the problem goes away. If it does, maybe he is intolerant to somthing in the solids you're giving him.

Are you sure he is crying because he has wind? Maybe he's just full. Lots of five month old babies get very good at breastfeeding and can take a lot in five minutes.

And breastfed babies often drop a centile at this age - they get more active and anyway the charts are not really for breastfed babies, who put on weight slightly differently to formula fed babies. It doesn't mean your child has lost weight, just that he isn't gaining as fast. It's normal IME.

Thank you for your messages. You've made me feel a bit better about it. You may well be right - maybe he is full? I will persevere and see how it goes...unless anyone else has any suggestions!
Thanks again

You could always try a spot of infacol for a few days, and see if that changes anything?
