Engorgement causing sleep deprivation - help!

My 9 wk DD has just started going through the night (I know, lucky me! Long may it last...!) However I'm still waking up at 3 with incredibly painful engorged boobs, leaking everywhere, and can't get back to sleep because of it. DH thinks I should pump but will that not signal to my breasts to keep making the milk at that time so it will continue to happen? Should I just stick it out until my breasts figure it out (will they??) or has anyone any suggestions / similar experiences?
Thanks in advance - sorry if this makes no sense. Actually feel more tired than when she was having night feeds!!

This happened to me and my milk supply leveled off after a few nights. But if it is really bad, you can pump, but only a little - just enough to ease the discomfort or your body will make more milk. Fingers crossed the sleeping lasts!!

Just stick it out if possible. If you're really uncomfortable hand express as little as you can off.

You're right, pumping will tell your breasts to keep going. A NICU nurse advised that I could get away with expressing up to an ounce. Only had to do it a couple of nights though and then it was survivable for the next couple of nights after which things finally settled. Hope it eases off soon for you, it's no fun.

I'm in the same boat as my 4th month old DD sometimes sleeps through the night.

I've seen me pick baby up and dream feed her if I've woken up really full. But I don't really want to be doing this when I could be sleeping. She always wakes up alert and noisy after a dream feed though! I woke up one morning with milk trickling up my chest and into my neck yuk!

Though id share my tip to save the mattress getting leaked on: I put a child's disposable bed wetting mat on top of the mattress protector and under the bed sheet!
