I have been expressing during the day whilst at work (ft 5 days a week) up til now. My DD is 6 months and we plan now to begin weaning. I don't think ill be able to continue expressing at work after Xmas due to increasing work demands. Wondering whether to begin stopping expressing over Xmas break but not sure how to start. DD already has 1 bottle formula - shall I just start replacing more ebm feeds with formula? And how do I stop myself getting painful breasts? And can i still feed mornings and at night when I get home? Sorry for all the questions - am a bit confused.

its a while ago now, but I did similar, never got hang of expressing so when I went back to work at 7 months I feed morning, evening and night and irc boobs adjusted fairly quickly. Continued like this till 1 yr.

I did this when I went back to work when DS was 5 months. I took out a feed every few days to give the boobs a chance to adjust. And their still seemed to be enough for a quick morning and evening feed, although towards the end of the year this became more of a bonding thing than a proper feed.

I think if you're prepared to do some night feeds, you can get away with 1 bottle of formula. Although care giver may not be so happy for a few weeks, I'm sure DD will adjust. I'm stopping expressing in the new year as well.

Oops penguinarmy didn't explain well. DD currently has 1 bottle formula and 3 bottles expressed milk. This would go to all formula if I stop expressing.

that sound alot. How much of FF and EBM is she having.

Depends on how much you want to carry on BF. If you do then you'd need to careful that she doesn't get lots of calories from the formula as otherwise she won't/need want to feed from you i.e. she has enough to just get her through. What this would be in formula amounts I don't know, but at 5-6 months DD was on 8-12 oz EBM a day.

She has:
Breastfed 5am
5oz formula 8am
5oz ebm 11am ish
5oz ebm 3pm ish
5oz ebm 6ish
Breastfed sometime between 7-8pm

We used to be giving 6oz per bottle but thought it was too much. We've yet to start weaning as DD has not been well but hope to in coming days.
