Baby Bjorn original or Connecta carrier?

The frog leg thing looks more pronounced when they are little, but as they get bigger it's more like their legs are around you, as if you were giving a piggyback or holding them on your front.

MoonUnitAlpha · 19/12/2010 21:21

Here is my ds in a similar carrier, you can see the seated/frog leg position.

Dozeyland · 19/12/2010 21:31

I just get a abit daunted by the frogleg position. no idea why lol but i will get use to it. DD is 7 weeks, definitely just like them having a piggy back though isnt it.

so from newborn you carry them a bit different with the adjustable strap up until what age, then just do the frog leg? sorry baby brain!

i think connecta say 3months+ or that might be rose and rebellion. but whenever you feel comfortable really :)

MoonUnitAlpha · 19/12/2010 21:38

Basically you just hold them against your front and then bring the body of the carrier up so they're sitting in it - the fabric supports their thighs up to the knee so their thighs/knees are level with their bottom. You use the adjustable strap for maybe the first 2/3 months to make the fabric a bit narrower so it just goes up to the back of their knees, otherwise their legs would be sticking out horizontally.

You can't really have them on your back til 4 months+ I'd say.

ethelina · 19/12/2010 21:39

Connecta says 10 weeks, but as long as you need to cinch in the fabric so it reaches knee to knee without wrinkling. I stopped using the accessory strap at 11 weeks.
Its dead comfy. DH is a convert.

Dozeyland · 19/12/2010 21:45

I'm convinced now. i have to order one. i will wait for the BB to be delivered (hopefully this week) then return back to amazon.

I want my connecta!

Now i just have to choose a colour....... i have a DD, but need something unisex incase i have a son one day! lol

hmmm what to choose....

How is it getting them in and out when they need a feed? just un- click & go..?

ALSO:

In this weather especially, what do you dress your DC in when in the connecta? obviously wrapped up, but how many lyers neded?

I didn't have a connecta, but when DS was small enough for a front carry in the wrap I actually used to dress him just in a vest and sleepsuit and do my coat up over both of us. I used to wear one of (then) DP's fleeces (as he was bigger than me) and my coat over the top, which was a normal coat but I'd worn it all through pregnancy. Whichever coat you could fit into when 9 months pregnant should be fine!

When he was a bit older and liked to have his arms out more I used to put a jumper on him as well - though TBH it was warmer by then.

With most decent slings you can just loosen the shoulder straps, drop them down slightly and latch on. You can't do that in a baby bjorn!

SmacSmackedSanta · 19/12/2010 22:23

Dozey check the small print with Amazon. Do they do free returns? I recently bought a stairgate from Kiddicare and it arrived at my brothers the day after we were leaving so he went out and bought another one from Mothercare so his house would be safe for my girls for our visit. I contacted Kiddicare about returning the item and I have to pay for it. If I had cancelled the order then I wouldn't have had to pay so if you know now you don't want it then look at the small print and see if you can save yourself the return charge (if there is one).
I have a Jojo Maman bebe polartec snowsuit and in this weather I put that on over DD2 normal clothes and put a hat on too. She is much happier in the sling than in the bushbaby back carrier as she gets some body heat from me - and I get to kiss her head Smile
I no longer have a coat big enough to fit over both of us so I wear a thinnish wind resistant fleece and put the sling on top.

BadaBingBang · 20/12/2010 06:06

I have a Baby Bjorn and a baba sling, of these two, for longer walks I prefer the Baby bjorn. Don't see why it has such bad press here. As for the baby being in the wrong position, according to the Baby Bjorn website, it is endorsed by a paed. My babies would fall asleep instantly in the baby bjorn, was the only way to guarantee 3 hours of uninterrupted shopping.

sparklingsea · 20/12/2010 06:22

I loved my Baby Bjorn and used it loads for both of mine. I don't see what is wrong with the babies position, mine were incredibly happy in it.

KellyBronze · 20/12/2010 10:15

anatomie this page has good images of how to carry a baby in a sling in an ergonomically safe position.

SeaShellsFiringUpTheQuattro · 20/12/2010 12:16

My babies are happy in a baby Bjørn, but as I said up thread, I find it really uncomfortable to use for any duration of time.

Dh prefers the connecta and back carrypacks than the frontcarriers - alot more comfortable and the novelty of being kicked in the gonads endlessly as soon as the baby is no longer new born soon wears off!!

NinkyNonker · 20/12/2010 13:37

I have a Beco Gemini and a Sleepy Wrap stretchy wrap, both are great. WOuldn't recommend a Bjorn.
