I need sweets!

I'm breastfeeding a 3 week old.

I'm breathing in sweets and mince pies, cakes and gingerbread men, whatever I can get my hands on!

I've put dried figs in the sweetie drawer as a decoy, and I didn't get any goodies from the supermarket, but DH is a teacher and just came home with a load of sweetie shaped presents from the kids!

Will this settle down on it's own accord, or will I need to exercise self-restraint?

For weeks after DD was born I could hardly eat anything apart from cherry nutrigrain bars and banana milkshake Confused. Your hormones are probably still all over the place but things should settle down soon. I can barely look at a bloody cherry nutrigrain bar now!

Try to eat as wide a range of food as you can and taking some vitamins will help as well. And make sure you drink plenty of water or juice.

Look - as long as you're also eating your veggies, go for it. Eat those sweets!

The amount I ate when DD was tiny was obscene.

And I was back in my pre-preg jeans within 6 weeks.

Breastfeeding is a marvellous thing.

Restraint whilst bfing, that's a new one on me Xmas Smile.

"Sweets should only be eaten as part of a balanced diet". Forget that, your LO obviously needs it and I think my milk was largely made of chocolate and cake. Had a bit of a thing for Tunnocks Teacakes and used to eat a 12 box at a time.

Don't worry though, my appetite and weight went back to normal when I eventually gave up bfing so yours should be the same.

Congratulations, you sound like you are doing a brilliant job.

I lived on Hobnobs for weeks on end. I even found a recipe to make my own if I'd run out and couldn't be arsed going out. Bloody lovely.

blackcurrants · 18/12/2010 00:49

Chocolate fudge brownies for me. And piles of dairy milk. For the first month at least, DS was made of 90% refined sugar.

It does calm down. Enjoy the serendipitous timing of it being Christmas, and scoff on!

(my DH is a teacher too. Am eyeing up his bag. Sure there's chocolates in there :) )

PenguinArmy · 18/12/2010 00:55

well DD is 9 months and I'm scoffing an almond and chocolate bar. When I'm not doing that it's chocolate brownies

Longtinsellyjosie · 18/12/2010 09:15

In fact, at one stage when I had an upset tummy and didn't fancy mainlining Starmix eating as much, the weight dropped off rather alarmingly...

Nagoo · 18/12/2010 12:15

can already make own hobnob substitutes Blush

I'm eating chocolate orange segments as i read, when i've finished those i'll probably move on to some cadburys dairy milk or perhaps a packet of jaffa cakes.
I figure that as long as I eat plenty of healthy food too I can eat as much sugar as I like - and I was back in my pre-preg jeans at about 6-8 weeks
My DH has bought me mostly chocolate for christmas Xmas Grin

I'm feeding a 10 week old & feel hungry all the time.not as bad as a few weeks ago though when I was ready for lunch by 11.

mrsgordonfreeman · 18/12/2010 14:41

I could (and still can) eat a whole tin of condensed milk.

Or a whole 6 pack of jam tarts.

I also switched from a quarter to a half chicken when I go to Nandos.

I don't know how I'll go back to eating normal quantities of cake and chocolate.
