Formula after breastmilk question.

Eventually ds will have formula or milk that isn't mine. I think he's probably going to have a skin reaction to cow milk based formula or cow milk - his sister did and he has a tiny patches of unhappy skin behind his ears which I think might be a reaction to the cow milk I drink. Has anyone with this kind of problem weaned on to goat milk formula or goat milk? Was the reaction lessened? Just considering options now. (Ds is 4 months and exclusively bf and will be for as long as I'm off work)
Thanks for any thoughts....

You could speak to your hv/gp and try SMA LF it is the same formula as standard SMA but with the Lactose Removed hence LF Lactose Free, it is available to buy from chemists and is also available on presciption.

Otherwise there are milk free formula's available from the GP, Nutramigen and Neonate.

When i looked after a cows milk intolerant girl we were given several choices

[1]soya tho upto 50% will react to this and not suitable for boys as has female hormones in.

[2]goats milk tho it is close to cows milk.

[3]sheeps milk which has more differences to cows milk than goats does.

[4]milk free formulas

Hope this helps.

We used Nanny goats milk formula for ds2 whenever I hadn't enough EBM. He was fine with it: The first time we had used cow's milk formula he came out in a rough rash which our GP said was eczema but never got it with the nanny.

Hi, ive only just seen this message. I am breast feeding 4mth old ds2. We have just 2 weeks ago introduced 1 formula bottle (using Hipp 1st milk at the moment) and he has got this rough excema sort of rash on both cheeks. Im pretty sure this is excema as ds1 has had the same which in toddlerhood has become excema rashes on wrists, elbows, backs of knees and random at bad times. Im sure it was down to the formula and the doctor did recommend soya at that time but I had read some scary reports about it (cant remember what). I really want to try and avoid the excema this time. The health visitor has been really unhelpful, failing to recognise that it's likely to be excema so I think I might go to the doc. Thanks for the tip about the lactose free milk matnanplus. I know its stupid but I think I would feel a bit strange about giving him goats milk, is that stupid?

chipmonkey, if you're still out there, how long did you use the nanny goat formula? is your child now drinking cow's milk?
