Leaving DD for a day

So I'll be going to my OH's works night out tomorrow. We will be staying at the hotel where the meal will be.

I guess I'm looking for reassurance that everything will be ok and that DD won't decide to reject my boobs when I come home.

I plan to take my pump away to express every now and again so I don't become engorged. I'm paranoid about blocked ducts etc! Never had any issues before though!

So I'll be away from her for about a full day at the most. But it probably won't be as long as that. I have expressed milk thawing in the fridge just now for my mum to feed her. I worked out how much I'd need so I should have enough. If there isn't, then I've said to my mum to use some ready made cartons of formula!

Oh she is 3 months old incase you were wondering. She sleeps quite well so hoping this one night away from me won't disturb her routine of going to bed at 10pm. I tell my mum all the time about her sleeping habits so my mum is aware.

Anyone got any advice for me? Just incase theres something I haven't thought of....

Dont worry, shell be fine. We went away for one night when ds was a similar age and he was a pretty rubbish sleeper. Bless mil! Enjoy your break.

I did it the other week, and as long as you express to ease the engorgement everything will be fine. I found that DS latch was a little lazy when i next came to BF but a day later and everything was back in action. When you get back you might find that little one wont want to stop feeding, but thats ok as well, just go with the flow, and enjoy your night off, i've heard that women can return to BF after a break of up to 4 weeks, even women who adopt can start BF, 24 or even 48 hrs won't make that much of a difference. So relax and enjoy Xmas Smile

dont worry if she needs formula either, sterlilised bottles and carton formula, make sure your mum warms the milk to body temp, same happened with my son and apart from different horrible smelling poo, no problems

Have you tried her on a bottle before? And on thawed Breast milk?

Lynzjam · 10/12/2010 21:46

Yeh she takes both fine. I gave her a bottle of expressed milk when she was only a few days as I was having issues! Had thawed milk over a month ago the last time my mum babysat.

Pfft, bet you will be fine then! :)

I would look up the kellymom section of how to bottle feed a BF baby, as we had problems after I left DD for the day same age. Had been taking bottles before hand quite happy, but I think the sustained time plus my mum was more of 'feed the baby' versus 'let the baby feed' person.

Was a tricky few days of VERY fussy eating, but it was fine in the end. I think a little fussy behaviour is normal and the nursing strike we had is less so. I do think those tips helped as I went back to work at 4 months and DH fed her EBM as we never had a problem since.

Enjoy your well earned night away

Thanks Climberchick. I emailed my mum a Kelly mom link about bottle feeding a breast fed baby. Hopefully my mum will take it on board.
