10 w old won't take bottle now... will he change his mind in a few months?

my little boy is not keen to take the bottle... i have tried every day since 6 weeks and he would regularly tske a couple ounces. he is less willing now only taking an ounce if anything.

those of you who had similar probs did they take the bottle eventually? I am starting to worry because i am due to go back to work at 6 months so it could be a real prob.

Also should i keep trying every day? I just try once at around 11 am as thats when he seems to be in the best mood... attempts in the evening haven't worked as he is fussing a lot at that time and gets upset.

i have also changed from clser to nature to NUK latex to see if that helps. i think they are marginally better.

thanks

KSal - not worth it, IMO! You are not going back until 6 mths, and he can have a cup then. Struggling every day and making him upset is counter-productive ie it makes him less likely to co-operate. Try again in a few weeks if you want to; someone else giving the bottle seems to win some babies round!

But you might think 'why bother?', seriously, when it isn't going to be essential :)

i waited until i went back at 8 months. mother gave DD the cup successfully - i'd tried a few times but tiktok is right in saying someone else doing it is more likely to succeed.

no need to bother trying until the week before you return. then with a cup.

Totally agree with tiktok. I went back when my first was 6 months and we went straight to a sippy cup because he'd never accepted a bottle. It was fine, saved lots of hassle. Saying that, I've been trying bottles again with DC2 and at 11 weeks she's still totally disinterested. It limits how long I can leave her for but won't be a problem by 6 months.

thank you so much for the reassurance. I don't mind admitting that i really don't enjoy breastfeeding but i'll do it as that want he wants/needs... i'm just worried about not being able to stop when financial imperative takes over... will leave it a while and see what happens. I was starting to wonder if i was just upsetting him and making it worse.

i also didn't mention he has a cold, so is more than likely needing the closeness more.

I returned to work when dd was 9 months full time and she took a bottle of formula from the nursery staff without any problems. will not take a bottle from me or dh, but will drink from a zippy cup and eat loads.

DD wasn't keen on bottles. I went back to work at 6 months.

I left the nursery on the first day with a bottle and sippy cup.... they called me as she wouldn't take either. The next day though she took the bottle.

Don't keep on trying just wait until you go back...
