Blocked nose and breastfeeding

My 3 week old daughter's having a problem with her blocked nose, which is causing a problem with feeding...

She can't seem to latch on as she can't breath properly...and gets frustrated...
She couldn't take any feed for 10 hrs this am and I was worried I called NHS 24 and went to see out of hour GP - who was totally useless.

Went to see my own GP this morning and she thought she's got blocked nose.

I've been putting her in the bathroom with shower on for steam effect (which seen to help and she latched on fine...breastfed in the bathroom for 45mins...) and also got nasal drops.

Any other advice/suggestions on unblocking her nose be appreciated!

We have this, fiddly but effective if used just before a feed. Hope it gets better!

Then of course there is the suck the snot out with your mouth technique, I've never done it myself but would if we got desperate. I think this video shows how to do it itsalmostnaptime.blogspot.com/2010/03/wfmw-how-to-suck-snot-out-of-baby.html

Thanks for your suggestion Going, but I was told by a health visitor that they wouldn't recommend using aspirators on newborns...

Have you used it on a newborn?

Not as young as yours, didn't know they weren't recomended recommended for newborns, I think she was about 7 weeks at the time. We started getting worried about how little she was able to feed and she wasn't having many wet nappies so I was happy to try anything, though it worked well and didn't try the mouth technique which I was quite glad about really!

On the aspirator link the Boots product description says 'Paediatrician approved from birth' so may be worth a go if you are really stuck and nothing else works.

I think the nasal spray is better than the drops and easier to apply. The brand Nuk have a brilliant snot sucker, I personally found it the best.
