Hi there

My LO is 6 weeks and only sleeps for 30 minute stretches during the day unless she is sleeping on Daddy when she sleeps between 3-4 hours! When she has had longer sleep she breastfeeds much better as normally she falls asleep and feeds take an age! I don't want her sleeping on OH all the time as I worry she won't get to sleep any other way but its good because she is more alert and happy when she has fed better.

What do you think?

thats a tough call. When she naps you could try wrapping her in a blanket that smells like her dad, that might help her stay asleep. Do you swaddle her? That could make her feel more secure and like she is being hugged.

She's 6 weeks - you can't spoil her. Do what works :)

I think 6 weeks is too young to be spoilt. At 6 months yes she should be able to sleep by herself.

I always swaddled for sleeps until around 12 weeks.

Well, my 17 week old will sleep 45 minutes in his cot, or 2-3 hours in my arms. I don't have any answers I'm afraid!

He's much happier once he's slept well though, which makes me happier.

Yep, my 18 week old will sleep better if I'm lying down next to him or holding him. I think babies are hard-wired to want to be held, to be honest - and it does make evolutionary sense. Babies who were held survived! :)

Swaddling in a pre-snuggled blanket can do wonders, but the key point is - you can't spoil a baby that small. You can't really spoil any baby before 12 weeks old, they don't see patterns and can't get cause-and-effect, and therefore they can't manipulate you.
Enjoy your baby. Do what feels right. :)

I would say at this stage do what you need to do to get by!

You'l be amazed how quickly your lo changes...inc their sleeping habits! Itwon't be forever. Xmas Smile

Sama as MoonUnit here!

Having a velcro DS2 myself all I can say is to follow what you feel is best for her now and worry about what may - or may not - happen later.
