Adding milk to baby rice

This is probably a really silly question, but here goes :
When I start ds on baby rice, I would like to add breastmilk to it rather than formula, but looking at the quantities of milk needed once he is on good sized portions I'm not sure I'll have enough milk for the rice and for his normal feeds.
Have other people expressed at feeding time for the rice, or at another time of the day and then stored it? I did have some stores in the freezer but they've all been used up!
Thanks!

I always use cows milk

I started off using breastmilk but after he was 6 months switched to using formula just for making up baby rice, etc. Actually, after that point it was so much easier to feed him as the formula made the rice thicker and easier to dump on the spoon somehow!

Again, I had the same issues as you in that I found expressing hard work, and I decided that as he was being weaned anyway, that a small amount of formula wouldn't hurt while his milk feeds were still completely breast fed.

How old is little one?
I used bottle milk as my 2 wouldn't breastfeed anyway. Was told cows milk wasn't good to use under certain age.
My 2 however were 5-6weeks and 7-8weeks when started on baby rice as extremely hungry.Midwife went of it but they are now 9yrs and3 yrs so can't have done them any harm.
Can't help on the freezing bit although brothers girlfriend freezes as she expresses at or just after feeding times. Was told that b.milk is produced to the quantity needed so should think it will be ok.
Hope someone else can give better advice, but thought at least you'd know that bottle milk isn't to bad.As said my two have strong stomachs and are pretty tough.

ds is 4.5 months so I'd like to wait a bit before weaning him, but I like to be prepared!
I'm not totally anti-formula as he has had the occasional bottle before now but I would like to make weaning as uncomplicated as possible.

I weaned using expressed milk frozen in ice cube trays (just over 1 teaspoon per cube) until had introduced a range of fruit/veg and mixed feeding. (With dd missed the baby rice out and went straight to carrot!) That way I felt more in control of what ds and dd were eating and hoped to pick up on anything that disagreed more easily if I wasn't trying to introduce too many new foods at once. After about 6/7 months I used formula or water. Apart from breakfast I found I never needed very much milk for weaning anyway.

I had a friend who was able to hand express enough just before a meal and would then b/feed afterwards. I think it is a matter of adjusting the feeding routine to suit you and your baby.

You are doing so well not to have started weaning yet. If you can get to 6 months you will find you don't even need baby rice. I started weaning dd at 6 months with carrot/ potatoes etc and mixed with breastmilk or water. With my other babies I used rice and mixed with breastmilk. You don't need as much as you actually think. You can use combination of breast milk and water.

I just mixed water with the baby rice. Probably should have been boiled water, but doubt I bothered.

nursie - as mears says, you may find that by 6 months your ds doesn?t like/want/need baby rice anyway! My dd went off baby rice almost immediately and we weaned fairly late. She found it just too boring in flavour very quickly and moved straight on to basic puree veg and fruit after only 2 days or so... Personally I wouln?t worry too much right now asit could be all over nothing. Your baby will let you know exactly what he wants and when, there doesn?t seemt o be a set pattern. Good Luck
