Did you have to take your own formula milk into hospital?

Does anyone have experience of taking own formula milk into hospital or was there a vending machine or some other way to provide formula milk?

Just looking for experiences of units that do not provide formula milk for free.

I had DD in N London, and was told they didn't provide formula, I was bfing though, but they did keep suggesting I give DD formula, I had to be really forceful about not giving her any, I assume the formula they were trying to push on me would be free....
ho would'
tbh I think it's a good thing, make ffing a pita then inevitably more babies will at least get a couple of days of colostrum, and maybe some mums will end up bfing who would've automatically gone for formula if it had been provided.

providing terrys is fab though - in the same way, it might get some people into using them who wouldn't have thought of doing so, my m/w's were very anti terries - told me we'd give DD terrible rashes etc.

In my hospital they provided the small glass bottles with formula in. I bf so not an issue for me personally but I really think this would be a false economy.

You save £10,000. So that is a nurse for about 3 months (considering the total cost of employing someone, not just their wages).

How much time do you think is going to be taken up with explaining to people about hygiene issues, dealing with people moaning that it ought to be free and used to be, dealing with complaints that your milk carton has been moved/taken/left out plus the hassle of however many people barging around in a small milk kitchen and providing fridge space for open cartons. Plus the sterile bottles will still be nicked. PLus the nurses will have more work to do for the people that are unable to feed their babies themselves because they are ill.

Plus, the baby is in hospital. Older people in hospital get their food provided. Maybe you should ask the mums to bring in their own food, but you will still provide the crockery and cutlery. This is no different. Plus the same issues with wastage apply, I bet a lot of hospital meals are thrown away.
