How do I get dentinox colic / gripe water into my DS?

Have done lots of reading on here and am now trying a combination of dentinox colic relief drops and gripe water to ease my DS (4 weeks) wind/colic pains. Also baths/massage/tummy time etc etc.

I was wondering if there is some magic way to get him to take these two remedies? Am I missing something? I bf so can't mix in with the feed. Tried dripping the gripe water onto my boob/into his mouth whilst feeding which sort of worked (but he didnt like it - not suprised it smells gross) and so kept coming off/swllowing more air!! Though the wind did come up soon after so I suppose this method is ok? The dentinox though is sooo thick I guess I just have to squirt it into his mouth, but he jsut spits is back out whilst wailing (again more ir swallowing). I am of course willing to perservere if these things will help him, but wondered if there is some alternative magical method of getting the stuff into him that someone else has found?

I have not tried infacol/colief and may if the gripe water/dentinox dont work but want to give them a chance first.

Also, any thoughts on whether a dummy might help? He wants to suck but the extra milk (v fast letdown) seems to exaserbte the pain problem. I let him suck my finger which he seems to like, but I can't keep my finger in his mouth all night!!! (though I do try).

Sorry for all the waffle, hope someone can help.

They do get used to the gripe water taste ime (dd 8 weeks) when we first started to give it via syringe most of it ended up on the bibs and poor girl screamed the house down, on day 3 she only had to smell the stuff coming near her and she was smacking her lips together! HTH and a big hug because its not easy xx

Really? Oh thats good to know. I figured we would always be fighting it down cos it smells so awful and the dentinox stuff seem like a stronger/thicker/gooier version.... YUM!!

Fingers crossed you are right Grin

Hi - we use one of these for Gripe water (we use Gripe water when required if she's in the middle of a bad colic pain, and infacol as a preventative before every feed).

Infacol comes with a nice dropper so might be worth a try.

I think both infacol and the dummy took DD a few days to get the hang of, but now she knows infacol means milk is on its way, its like an appetiser for her ;-)

I second the use of a syringe for gripe water. If you ask your chemist they'll probably give you a free one, mine did anyway.

My DD loves the taste of gripe water. So much so that when I was first teaching her to take a dummy I used to dip it in gripe water to get her to suck it [bad mother emoticon].

i am using a syringe for the gripe water. the dentinox comes with its own syringe but the stuff is so thick and u have to give 2.5 ml (more than infacol), so loads just gets spat out. any ideas? sorry for rubbish typing,... crying baby! :(

Might already have been said (skimming) but try putting the syringe into the cheek, then there isn't the shock of the liquid hitting the back of the throat.

If doesn't like Dentinox, try Infacol.

I'm a BIG dummy fan.

I would rub a bit of dentinox teething gel onto dummy when DD really screaming - magic!

With the gripe water we found that when DD was little we had to give it to her really slowly (i.e. a couple of ml at a time) and made sure she swallowed each little bit before we gave the next bit. Takes a bit of time but we did get alot more into her. I've never given Dentinox so can't advise on that.
