Hi everyone,

I'm sorry if this is a common thread.

I am pregnant with my 3rd baby, 1st baby i so much wanted to breatfeed and tried for 4 week's, my problems were such sore nipple where they were bleeding and the baby actually had blood in its mouth with each feed, i tried breast shiels and cream but it got so painful i gave up Sad

2nd baby i had a touch of PND i tried again for about 4 days but the pain and blood almost started instantly and i just couldn't face the pain again. I had MW help me but i couldn't get it again.

So im pregnant with my last baby and really wantg to give it another go, i have bought nipple cream already and been using it, i also have nipple sheilds ready to be packed in my bag, i was thinking maybe use them straight away? i have a pump and this thing that makes your nipple pop out lol

Please help its my last chance and i would love any advice.

Hope you get help, katy.

Try calling one of the bf lines - there on here somewhere.

Nipple shields are a useful tool, but they do have drawbacks so talk about them first.

It may be that with decent help, skilled knowledge from a midwife, and some preparatory reading on your own part, that baby No. 3 will not hurt you at all - read up about biological nurturing, self-attachment, skin to skin, and prevention of sore nipps and you and the baby may well be just fine.

While pregnant with DD, I was taught how to do nipple massage. It is started at 30 weeks and continued up until birth. It takes about 2 minutes per day and gradually toughens up the nipples so that they are ready for the job of breast feeding by the time the baby is born.
It is not common in the UK, but is standard practice in Japan and I found it very useful and no pain or problems with breast feeding. I did it again when pregnant with DS.
If you're interested in trying it, I am happy to write out or mail you a description of what to do.

i would say find out about local breastfeeding groups and go while you're pregnant. they're all very welcominmg to pregnant women I have found and it gives you the chance to see other women feeding (don't underestimate that!), talk about what it's like, find out common concerns and solutions and most importnatly gives you a first contact once your baby is born if you do need any help at all
