(Only just) Pregnant and BF DS - will I always be this tired?

Am about 6 weeks gone Smile. DS is 2.1. He loves his boogoo. Only feeds just before bed but it is a 'proper feed'. Nipple tenderness is definitely an issue but not unbearable. I don't really want to wean DS but I am sooooo tired. I remember being exhausted with DS but nothing close to this - I could easily sleep for 14 hours a day - I normally have about 6. My appetite is poor - not proper morning sickness but heartburn and general bleurchhh. So I am eating less than normal (and no calories from wine Wink ).

So some questions:

  1. Will the BFing be making the exhaustion worse or is it just that I'm three years older, and have a toddler to run round after?
  2. Is there anything I can do to make the BFing easier to manage whilst preg?
  3. Will it be like this all thru pregnancy or will it ease off when I get to the magic 13 week mark?

I don't mind would be delighted if DS self-weans - and I realise he might when the milk supply decreases - but I don't want to force the issue. I'm feeling so tired though (despite a decent night's kip) that if this continues beyond the next few weeks I might have to think otherwise

If it's just a bedtime feed could you feed him lying down and have a doze at the same time?
And while you're doing that DH could be making your tea or clearing up after it?
Congratulations btw :o
Sorry to say - mine didn't really get better in fact the pain and discomfort was still there after DD was born which I wasn't told about. Did settle down eventaully though.

Oh and it's swings and roundabouts, because I was feeding DS still I had no supply issues for DD, and no engorgement when my milk came in. In fact, other than a few utterly miserable evenings trying to feed both of them at the same time, feeding this time round has been so much less stressful.

Thanks SPB. I have been having a nap (ie two hour sleep) after I put DS to bed. DH has been a star - making dinner if not quite clearing up after it Grin .

It's good to hear about the positives postnatally. Especially as I had gestational diabetes and DS had to be given formula to stabilise his sugars - I'd like to avoid that next time - even if just by being able to express during preg and freeze my milk for the bean to have if needed.
