blocked ducts keep happening in same place

I have a blocked duct (or ducts) at the moment, making my breast really hard and lumpy and painful in one place, which seem to soften up after feeding but then comes back again after a couple of hours. Have tried hot compresses and massaging and stroking towards the nipple during feeding. I also have a white spot on my nipple (could this be a blocked milk pore) which I have opened up but it's still a white spot. I can't seem to express any milk out of it so I'm not sure it is a blocked pore. If it is why would the lumpiness and soreness in this part of my breast seem to resolve after a feed only to reappear later?

Any advice would be appreciated. thanks.

this is a bump for you really, i don't know anything about blocked ducts. The only thing that comes to mind is could it be to do with the latch/your bra or position meaning milk isn't leaving the breast evenly? Hope you get some help to sort it soon.

not really sure why it seems to disappear then come back. Have you looked at kellymom's section on blocked ducts and mastitis? There's also a section on there about milk blisters.
You could try feeding in different positions so the breast gets drained differently. Hope you get some improvement soon

YY to different feeding positions.

Make sure your bra fits properly.

Particularly when you're feeding, make sure nothing is pressing into your breast (e.g. your bra, your hand, whatever) - particularly in the area that's getting sore.

Yack, it sounds like you have some blocked ducts that are not getting unblocked by what you have done so far. Feeding does tend to make it feel better for a while until your boob "fills up" again in this case a couple of hours later.

As you are getting some relief after feeding it would seem that if there is a blister you have popped it as if it had not popped itvwould not feel any better after a feed.

Keep doing what you are doing, kellymom is great on this and also has a picture of a milk blister you can check.

How long has it been like this for?

I find the rugby ball hold helps drain the breast more effectively, I am very prone to blocked ducts in one breast and in two specific parts of the breast and only this position really drains it all.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your advice. I'm quite new to mumsnet and it really helps feeling like there are people out there to discuss things with. Being with a baby and feeding much of the day can be quite a lonely business sometimes and ite helps to realise others are having a hard time of it also.

I will check out Kellymoms stuff on blocked ducts and also that rugbyball hold you suggested, and some gymnastics with different postitions. I've just fed leaning over my baby and my breast is not as hard and lumpy now, but i can feel it is still not as soft as usual when finishing a feed.

I have learnt SO much about bf and babies from mn. You are definitely not on your own. Sounds like things might be improving a bit, hope so. Let us know how you get on.
