Afternoon,

We've just done a feed that made me cry, and I though we'd left all that behind 10 months ago! I've got a blister on my nipple from where his top tooth (lateral incisor to be precise) is rubbing each time he feeds. He's not biting (been through that and thankfully it stopped), and positioning doesn't seem to make too much difference. He has also had a preference for that particular boob for a long time, so even if we have a fairly decent feed from the other side, he always wants at least a little bit from this side.

To add to this he's just started nursery so in the evenings he kind of cluster feeds to make up for lack of booby during the day!

So, what can I do? I'm going to see if I've got an old tube of Lansinoh somewhere. I was also wondering if I could put a little dressing over the sore spot? It's not in a spot where any of the mik ducts are I don't think.

Any advice gratefully recieved!

Anybody? He's going to wake up and have another feed soon and I'm still smarting from last time!

Whack the cream on. When he feeds, if you cradle hold, make sure his legs are fully supported, so feed on a bed or a sofa, and that he is fully turned towards you for the full feed. If he wriggles out of position a bit return him back to tummy-to-mummy immediately and hold him close, with his bum well tucked in - much harder to mess with the nipple as less leverage if bum held in. Make sure he has a good mouthful and adjust him while he is on for a better latch.

We often let older babies latch on in a more relaxed way and going back to basics can help.

Could he be getting a new tooth? My bitey times were when DS was teething (not biting, but as you say, totthy feeds).

Thanks ladies. The annoying thing is he's not biting me as such, his tooth is just rubbing on me. What do you think about me putting a little plaster over the sore?

get jelonet gauze from the chemist, my mw recommended it and my sore nipple healed very quickly (had been bloody). it's used for burns, residue does not need wiping off after. my chemist sold me it in individual stripds rather than a whole pack of 10.

I went through a short period where each feed was ending in tears (mine, lol!) I went ot the docs and it turned out I had a bacterial infection (my lo had grazed my nipple with her teeth) and the doctor put me on antibiotics which cleared it up really quickly. She also advised me to feed holding baby in the rugby ball posistion which was quite challenging with a 9 month old but it really helped! Hope you feel better soon xxx

Hopefully trying to feed him in a differnet position should give the sore area a bit of time to heal away from that particular area of agitation!
