My beautiful 12 wk old DS will only feed from one boob, my right. As a result my boobs are now noticably uneven (a good 2 cup sizes EASY!!) and once my boob is just about drained I cant offer him the other as there just isn't really anything there.

Is there anything I can do to stimulate production in my left? Not only do I want to be able to offer my LO a second boob but I'm becoming really self-concious and depressed about my wonkiness :(

He is still getting plenty of what he needs as he is a very healthy 15 pounds and in 80th centile. I suppose its more for me thaan for him that I'm asking but it bothers me every time I look in the mirror :'-(

Pls help xx

I can't help (and I'm sure there are lots of people here who know loads about bf who will be along soon) but I just wanted to reassure you they will go back to the same size when you stop feeding.

have you tried pumping from the other side while feeding? you can then freeze it or donate to milk bank but at least you'll be even and have milk ready incase your baby will take the other boob.

I have been a bit uneven too but never that bad. The way to stimulate production on left side is to get your DS to fed from it. Start each fed from left side, then do right and then do left again. Do not let him onto the right side until he has had good suck on the left.

With me it took a couple of weeks to even out, I suspect it will take you longer. I found that at the dream 10pm in his sleep he would suck on smaller side for ages lying down in bed.

If he will not feed from the left at all then maybe hire a hospital grade breast pump and do lots of pumping - once you have stimulated supply he will probably be happier to fed from that side again.

Thanks, I'll start ginig it a try. Hadn't tried pumping but I'll give it a go today. Its become a major issue for me.

If he's not keen on that side, you could try the rugby ball hold- that way it kind of tricks him in to thinking that he's on the other side.

Worth a go anyway. Smile

Both my girls have gone just for the right side, I presume because let down is easier. I have difficulty hand pumping, and did hire a hospital pump to get things going but my daughter just insisted on one side. It wasn't as early on as you,she was six months. I remember being really large on one side, and not on the other, but it does, strangely, settle down.
Also, as long as your baby is gaining weight you shouldn't have to worry. I did, but my baby was gaining fine, and I googled and found that the same thing happens to a lot of people.
The rugby ball hold is a good trick too.
Good luck!

Thanks, I've tried using the pump I have at home but it just hurts :-(

Tried getting him to feed from left boob and he did for about a minute if that, and then he pulled off fussing cos he obviously wasn't getting satisfied. I'll persevere tho, its getting to the stage where I wont wear stripes or anything clingy cos it just highlights the wonkiness.

what pump do you have? it might be worth hiring a hospital grade one for a month to try and even things out. also offer left breast as snack between feeds, try and use it as "human dummy" etc. the more stimulaton the better.

Cant really help but sending sympathy as I have exactly the same and cant really express so have just given up - try DD on small boob every time but she wont work at it unless shes sleepy at night as she knows the other ones easier! I pad one side of my bra Blush...

I have recently had the same issue. I second trying the "rugby hold" and starting baby off on the left side at every feed for at least three days. It seems to have worked for me.

I had this too and nearly gave up completely but just did it from the one and lying down as he hated being fed leaning back in my arms. Have only just found out what the real problem is and I feel terrible for not recognising sooner. I took him to a cranial osteopath who said his neck is slightly out and needs re aligning . So much makes sense now . Wonder if this may help you? Wish I had gone soon after he was born.
