Flucloxacillin and baby suddenly fussing at breast

It's all going wrong Sad

So I;m on tablets for Thrush, but apart from the initial latch and burning between feeds, the feed has been more or less pain free.

Now I've been given antibiotics (great for thrush...) as I was feeling ill - shivery/ hot sweats etc. The dr said they could give him diarroeah.

Last night it all went wrong. His belly sounded windy and he was fussying - going on/ pulling off/ squirming/ pulling head back and lots and lots of crying. Feeding is painful again.

Could the antibiotics be effecting him? How can I get through 6 more days???

He's feeding now - went back to skin-to-skin, but nibbling, falling asleep, not properly/ Got one hour sleep last night.

What am I going to do????????

I think it is the thrush and I wonder if he might have it too. It causes babies to become windy and because their mouths hurt they bob on and off the breast, which makes you sore. Does he make a clicking sound when he feeds? If so, he may not be latching properly. If he does have thrush a course of Nystatin may help.

I wonder if you can speak to someone at the breastfeeding network. They have an excellent leaflet on thrush and may be able to provide advice on this specific situation.

I've got some Daktarin for him, twice a day - got it on Monday after course of nystatin.

Not clicking, but latch isn;t great - but after so much fussing when hes on, I don't like to take him off. It actually took him 1.5 hours at one point last night. Normally a bad session is 10 minutes.

Sorry for all the desperate posts, I'm losing heart

You poor thing.

When my DD2 had thrush she had nystatin until it cleared. But then a few days later it started up again and in total she had two bottles of the stuff. It seemed never-ending and you have my sympathy.

Have you seen a breastfeeding adviser in the flesh? In our area the PCT has (or maybe had) a breastfeeding coordinator who was very hot on spotting thrush, mastitis etc and telling the doctors how to treat them.
