Eats on Feets UK

... apparently a bit like meals on wheels... Hmm

Eats on Feets is a Human milkshare group. We believe that every baby deserves human milk.

We're hoping this will be the beginning of a shift for UK mums to find that there is a better alternative to chemical and bovine based artificial milk. Human Milk is for Human Babies. It is not gross or dirty - it is the only healthy option, and better than formula will ever be.

At the grassroots level women are shaking off the bounds of patriarchy and working together to create a sustainable future for our children -- by sharing their breastmilk.

If you have an abundance of breastmilk and would like to donate, or if you cannot supply breastmilk to your own children due to medical conditions etc. Please do not hestitate to contact us.

Providing Mother to Mother milk sharing for babies in need.

Human milk for human babies.

Lyns You are still not getting my point. You say you are a group of well informed women, but when I go to your facebook page, if I knew nothing about the possible risks but was a worried mother trying to do the best by her baby then the info needed for me to make an informed decision isn't there readily available.

I'm all for babies having breast milk, thats why I donate to my local SCBU, but as an organisation you need to open and clear about how it works and put in place the tools that women need to make a wise, informed, safe decision.

As an organisation you have a responsibility to the parents who use your services.

I'm going to leave the thread now, because I can't make my opinion any clearer.

I hope many matches are made and lots of babies get fed lovely milk but I hope these milk recipients do their homework and consider screening potential donors.

crikeybadger · 03/11/2010 13:46

Agree with you summerheightshigh.

I think the idea behind the group is a good one, but I'm not sure that enough thought has been given to how it will work in practice.

I googled 'flash heating of breast milk' and it has indeed been found to kill the HIV virus (although no other mention of other diseases). It's thought that this will be a good way for women with HIV to give their own babies milk.

Incidentally La Leche League does not recommend informal sharing of milk.

lyns12 · 03/11/2010 14:16

I will make this clear again...it is entirely up to each individual as to how they choose to share milk..whether they decide to screen or not. I am being very clear about this. In case you missed it I also stated that a list of info and resources is about to be published on our page..so that is why you did not find it. Thankyou for your opinion summerheightshigh.
Perhaps we will just have to agree to disagree!
We are all big girls and able to make up our own minds about the Choices we make.
Anyone that is interested in what we are doing should come to us on the FB page. x

If individual mothers wish to use a questionnaire, that is up to them. We merely provide a meeting space for mothers to link up.

Women are advertising their own milk.

Like I said, we're concentrating our efforts on our facebook page. That's where it's all happening, so join us over there if you're interested!

You've misquoted me, but whatever.

The link works for me.

I'll be over on the FB page if anyone wants to join us there!

as mentioned i'm not on fb.

Imo it's a shame the "list of info and resources" wasn't ready in time for the launch and first match. Imo info on safety should have been top of your list of priorities.

You don't have to be a business to have clients. The word refers to any group of people who use a service.

Lyns, your defensive tone does a disservice to your mission.

I will make this clear again. I do feel that as an introductions organisation Eats on Feets bare a responsibility for saying "these are the risks, this is how to avoid them"

Don't internet dating agencies give guidance on safe use of their service?

I want babies to have access to bm.

But i want to know it is safe.

I want there to be no room for anyone to suggest that ff is better than ebm .

Failing to provide information on this matter leaves open the possibility that ebm is seen as a source of infection and therefore ff will be seen as a better option. Sad

gaelicsheep · 03/11/2010 20:49

How does this relate to www.milkshare.org.uk (another active thread)?

Eats On Feets is a dreadful name - I get that it isn't your choice though. I have seen this thread in the b/f topic for days and only just bothered to open it. That should tell you something.

lyns12 · 04/11/2010 10:58

Again if anyone is really interested they are more than welcome to come find us...joining facebook is dead easy..!
Yes I agree about it being a shame regarding not having the list of resources available immediately but this has all happened very quickly. our 1st official press release is not even out yet.....
We are NOT an introductions service, we have merely created a space where women, who have already made the informed choice to share breastmilk, can hook up. I think that What Eats On Feet actually is, is where the misunderstanding lies....
Actually, I felt like that about the name initially but it appears to be catching on would you believe. We now have most states in America and Canada covered, all the states in Oz and many more countries joining us to create this space...!!!
and natch...not defensive, just REALLY busy!
x

SparklePffftBANG · 04/11/2010 11:06

your posts are coming across as businesslike
you have an official press release coming out, you talk about having states 'covered' - people wll see you as an authority or an organisation (however informal) and so you have an obligation to behave in a responsible manner.

Milkshare · 04/11/2010 16:57

Just to clarify, Milkshare and Eats on Feets are not connected in any way other than supporting the same cause. I am one of the founders of Milkshare, we decided to set up the site several months ago as there was no easy way to source breastmilk in the UK at the time. Literally just a few days before our official launch Eats on Feets sprang up on Facebook, but by then of course we had already paid for the development and hosting of Milkshare. It's nice to see more awareness of milk sharing in the UK though!

As a side note, I do agree that parents need all the knowledge to make an informed decision.

hildathebuilder · 04/11/2010 17:52

why does everything have to be on Facebook. I am not on fecebook and would never join.

Separately although I agree with the principle of sharing milk I would strongly urge anyone who has milk they can donate to try their local milkbank or scbu first. I had a very prem baby. I also was very fortunate that I had milk, and ended up donating quite a lot. I get the fact that not all milk is suitable for milkbanks. But if you have milk and could be a milk donor it may well save a very premature or sick baby. It really is not the same as giving it to a term baby for whom it may be better than formula because that baby would prefer it. I would also feel very wary about anything which became close to being a "market" for human milk.
