DD gone off food and only wants boob - normal?

DD is 27 weeks and I've had her on a bit of solids for a few weeks now (started a bit early Blush)

She's still a terrible sleeper and HV suggested this week that I should introduce a bit of chicken or fish to her evening meal as protein helps them sleep (??)

Anyway, this has coincided with DD's worst cold so far and she seems to have gone off all solids completely!

Will she like them again when she feels better? And is she getting enough breastmilk from me as I imagine my supply has dwindled a bit? And does protein really help with cutting down on the nightfeeds?

Completely normal, that is the wonderful thing about bf, they still want it when ill :)

Don't worry at all about your supply. By this stage it is well established and while you may not feel all that full she will be getting plenty.

I have no idea about protein and night feeds. My personal feeling is that not much helps with them, they drop them when they are ready (or when they get to 2 years old and you are fed up to the back teeth of them still feeding at night)

It's really early on in the weaning process, so don't worry that she'll never eat again. Both of mine went off food and preferred bm when ill, it's comfort and food and antibodies and whatnot all bundled up together. :)

Afraid I can't comment on the protein thing as both of my children were terrible sleepers as babies. No matter what they'd eaten during the day, they still wanted the milk bar at night.

Hope your DD feels better soon.

TBH I'm just frustrated that she won't eat her tea - I had pinned my hopes on chicken helping her sleep!

I suppose it makes sense that she only wants milk when she's ill - thanks for reassurance re. supply.

Arrgghh! I wish people would stop giving me advice about sleep because nothing seems to work . . . HV also told me to try shh-ing and patting to re-settle her - I tried that last night and DD hated it - she just woke herself up more by crying till I put her on my boob!

Poor you for being sleep deprived and poor DD for her cold.

As the others have said its perfectly normal. She'll be getting the comfort, antibodies and nutrition she needs while she's feeling ill.

Can't help with the sleeping sorry but if you do try anything new its probably best to wait until she's feeling better, which I hope is soon.

Thanks for the sympathy Smile

She is fairly cheerful just really really snotty!

You're right - I'll just go with what she wants while she's ill.

Completely normal to go off food when (a) ill, (b) working on a developmental spurt and (c) feeding more at night cos you can't be bothered resettling without feeding.

It was 2 months into weaning before I saw any reduction in DS's milk intake - and that was just in the day (but I did manage to reduce some night feeds with ideas from the No-Cry Sleep Solution. But now at nearly 10 months DS is feeding 3 times a night again, so however it changes, it'll change again before too long.
