I am ebf'ing my 6wk old dd and she rarely seems happy, she has started smiling but I only ever get to see her happy first thing in the morning the rest of the time shes is really grouchy and she cries most of the time she isnt feeding, im sure shes getting enough milk due to her nappies, but I have trouble getting her to bring up wind and even when I do she is still always pulling her knees up to her stomach asif shes in pain, she often has very explosive nappies and it sometimes seems to hurt her when shes filling them asif she has painful diarrohea (sp?) I am worried she has got something wrong with her, is trying to wind an ebf baby usually this difficult? Does anyone have any tips to make it easier for her? I have tried all the different positions which seems to ease her stomach ache but she still wont burp for me, it mostly comes out the other end- she has a very musical bottom to say the least Hmm please tell me this is completely normal because I am starting to worry about it :(

It's fine for the wind to come out of your baby's bottom instead of her mouth.

My DD was exactly the same as yours and was quiet a grizzly baby until about 8 weeks. I found as she got older she was better able to deal with the wind and she is now at 15 weeks a very happy contented baby.

Have you tried the tiger in the tree hold or bicycling her legs then gently pushing them into her tummy to relieve wind? We also found infacol and gripe water helpful.

The jury is out on whether mother's diet affects wind in babies but my HV advised me to limit citrus fruits, coffee, garlic, chilli and onions if my baby was windy.

bicycling her legs - Place your baby so he or she is lying on their back. Hold their legs and turn them gently in a quick cycling motion i.e. as if she was pedalling a bike.

We had the same thing and infacol has really helped him get the wind out.
