Took lactation suppressants but milk came back. Help!

About 2 weeks ago I took the lactation suppressant Dostinex, made by Pfizer. 2 tiny pills that stop the breast milk from building. Since the milk stopped I still feel the letdown sensation at least 3-4 times a day and just this morning I've seen a drop of milk forming... It's all started again, what can I do? I no longer want to breastfeed but it seems despite the tabs it's not working.

Any advice or experience?

Was this in the UK, leaks?

I have not heard of this being prescribed here.

The literature on this drug toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/sis/htmlgen?LACT suggested 'rebound lactation' can happen in some cases - about 5 per cent.

Best source of advice on this is the doctor who prescribed the pills - much better and safer than asking a talk board, honestly.

leaks - glad you can get some professional help. Can't believe this stuff it OTC Shock.

You know, I'm assuming, that stopping breastfeeding stops breast milk production....no need for pills normally? Was there some reason you needed to do this super-quick?

just to add, does it really matter if there are a few drops still, if you don't feed it will dry up.

i have stopped BFing in the past in just 2-3 weeks without any pills or painful engorgement with both dd and ds1 but cutting out a feed every 2-3 days. was doing roughly 5-6 feeds in 24 hour period.

this time am still feeding morning and night, cut down from EBF to 3 feeds a day in a week, again without engorgement.

I only breastfed for 6-7 weeks (well expressed poorly but that's another story). Despite having next to no milk I still have drops and ds is 5 months now.

I've had to go back to work for financial reasons and don't get a chance to pump [angry}. It's a long story but I can't afford to lose my job and I have so much milk so I took those pills and still get pangs of letdown each day numerous times... I remember all your good advice from my firstborn 2 years ago when my milk supply was scarce and she had a tongue tie. So much better now but the economic situation requires me to work. My mum is looking after our 4 months old but it's just not ideal. I would have liked to continue but I just can't afford it. So I got desperate and voila. I'm seeing my doctor on Thursday so I hope she knows what to do. Thanks for popping in though! Much appreciated.

Thanks MumNWL, it's so hard to resist to feed her, esp. as she's rooting around with her little mouth, trying to find her comfort.
Strawberry, thanks for sharing. Gives me hope it will just taper off...
