breastfeeding and body aches

DD is 8 weeks old and BF and for the last week or so my body has ached like I can't believe. I'm not sure if the aches are linked to BF but I have heard this mentioned before but can't remember the logic behind it or even if it is linked to BF. It could be because i'm also carrying a car seat/DS who is 2.5 around but I've been doing these things for the last couple of months and I'm only starting to ache now. I mean properly aching - wrists, knees, back.

Ouch! Anyone know what's attacking my body?!!

Hi just wondered whether you are starting a bout of mastitis which often starts with aching and feeling flu like.
If you have any redness on boobs or a fever then I would contact a Dr for antibiotics.

onne of my friends has posibly developed rheumatoid arthritis as a result of pregnancy, rather than just breast feeding. she has very painful, aching joints. if this sounds famliar, visit the gp - she has been referred to a rheumatologist.

i used to get this and i would have to have a bath and go to bed. i found it was worse when i didn't sleep enough. it never developed into an actual illness.

I remember the achey wrists. IMO It is almost certainly from all the extra carrying, bending and twisting you are doing. Hot baths sound like a good idea.

Wow, thanks for quick replies. jaffacake - don't think it's mastitis as I had this with DS and remember the flu like feelings and achy boobs but this feels more like joint pain and my boobs are pretty normal and not inflamed.

I was actually planning to have my first relaxing bath since DD was born as DH is out tonight and kids both asleep (thank God - what a palava getting them to bed without DH's help tonight!) so hoping that will help with the pains. I think it's a good point that Ruby made - lack of sleep doesn't really help the situation but I guess it's par for the course with a newborn!

thanks again
