Help!. He is trying to twist my nipples off [hshock]. Have just given up for now. Hes been changed, burped, Ive switched sides, checked milk is coming out (it is, both sides) so why wont he feed when he is doing rooting faces, doing his hungry cry, tries to take the nipple, but squirms about when he feeds so he comes off then starts crying to go basck on. Any ideas what this behaviour is all about?

He may be ill. Have you taken his temperature. He probably needs a poo or something or may have wind. Try a warm bath. :)

DD usually does this when she needs to poo or needs winding. Have you tried holding her in the "tiger in the tree" hold? This always gets things moving for DD.

HelenaCC · 20/10/2010 21:28

we have tried winding him. What is the tiger in the tree hold? Googling now...

Try putting him on his tummy along your arm, supporting his head with your hand and stroking his back.

Don't worry, we've all had things like this when they are babies. :)

ah got it tiger in he tree right

... we just went for a second nappy change and more wind came out so hes looking happier now... ah resorting to mumsnet advice a good idea as he has been struggling for a while and my nips were about to drop off!!!!

A good old fart makes most of us feel better if we are honest Wink

See top pic on this page tigerinthetree.blogspot.com/2008/06/tiger-in-tree-reboot.html.
Basically baby is laying tummy down on arm with head in crook of arm. The pressure on the tummy helps relieve wind and settle tummy.

I always winded ds2 halfway through a feed (he would take a natural break, so I held him on my shoulder and patted his back firmly)
It seemed to make the second half of the feed much more happy for him.

I never winded DS. I learned with DD that if you sit them up really straight against you, they generally both burp and fart freely. You have to make sure their chin is straight and keep their spine against your front and they will surely squeeze out some air at one end or another. Mind you, DS also used to vomit freely at every opportunity so there may not have been that much left to give him wind Hmm

petisa · 20/10/2010 22:02

Dd2 (8 weeks) does this a lot and as others have said it's wind or a poo. Boy but she does MASSIVE farts!

Frrrrightattendant · 21/10/2010 07:05

WMMC - I'm confused, though I have never tried it with them sitting forwards, what you are describing surely is still 'winding'?

I just did the same thing but with the baby facing me, or against my shoulder. Putting them in a position whereby the release of wind is probable Smile
