One breast flowing much faster than the other?

Dd3 is 13 days , feeding v well but finding my right breast is frustrating her as it pours milk. She doesn't needto suck, just hold on & swallow.

Any suggestions on helping her?

Maybe express a little from that breast before she starts to feed so it's not so full and flowing?

It doesnt slow down until it's been going for ages.just fed for 20 mins from that side & didn't get any slower. I remember having this with dd1 but can't remember how we got round it.

The trouble is, the more you feed, the more you will flow! Maybe go for the pain of feeding less from that side for a day or 2 to try and cut down the amount of milk that is being produced... or stock your freezer with expressed milk for when you feel ready to go out. Sorry, not much help. Maybe another poster will have better suggestions :)

My left does the same thing, sometimes she chokes bless her. When she pulls back sometimes it spurts all over her, poor little thing.

That's it exactly

I wouldn't express from it could antagonise it! Leaning back as you feed, when you can, can slow the flow, or getting baby more upright at the breast can help them deal with a fastflow.

You could also try block nursing from that side, so do a couple of feeds in a row on one side so it is really soft and floppy either, the other side starts to get a bit full but eventually the build up of milk starts to become a signal to the breast that it is making too much, and the overall supply settles down a bit. I did this with dd2 and had a relatively more settled supply than I did with dd1, though I still made loads.

Remember as well to give her a few more windings when she is on that side as she will take in more air and get uncomfy, and if she is struggling once the flow starts, bring her right off and let the milk spurt into a clean cloth and return her once it slows to a dribble (be warned it may spurt again if it is very productive).

If it makes you feel better, I am always really envious at threads like these - my milk flow is very slow; my DD has to really work to get milk and it sort of drips out rather than gushes...I would love to have this problem...

This seems to be getting worse. Can't feed from that side overnight or when she is tired as she can't cope. dh says she sounds like she is drowning. Went to bfeeding group last week but no useful suggestions.

Help line suggested me holding tightly to slow flow. Likened it to squeezing a hose pipe. This is helping a bit but not wondrful
