My DD is 7mo and she was EBF until just before she reached 6m when I introduced 1 daytime bottle. This was because she was getting too distracted and just wasn't feeding well whilst we were out and about in the day. It seemed to be going fine until a few days ago...

DD has started to fuss and thrash more than before, but in a way that to me, looks like she is jhungry for more but just isn't getting enough. (She doesn't have the same look of satisfaction after most BFs as she does after that bottle of FF) I don't think it's a growth spurt as it's been going on too long - previously these have lasted a few days and then gone back as before.

Her sleep has been really up the creek too and she has been waking loads for a feed and is hard to settle back afterwards. So...last night, after her bedtime feed when she still seemed hungry, DH gave her just 4oz of FF as a top-up. SHe promptly fell straight to sleep and slept for 8 hours which is the first time she has done that in a couple of months.

When she woke at 4am for a feed, only one of my boobs was really hard and full (as I would have expected after 8hrs) but the other one was just soft and 'normal'. This morning, again she seemed that she wasn't fully satified after her BF first thing and she asked for more straight after breakfast (we're doing BLW so she didn't eat that much)

Does this all mean that my supply is beginning to drop off?

I can't say for sure, but I did notice a massive change in my boobs once dd started eating regular solid meals. They never get hard and full these days, so maybe your boobs are just adjusting?

I would be surprised if your supply is dropping off. Can you try and give her more food to nibble on through the day to fill her up?

curlyLJ · 18/10/2010 19:00

newbeeMummy yes they could be adjusting, but it was the longest period that I had not fed in ages, and it doesn't explain why only one got engorged.

Tootlesmummy as she's only 7mo the milk should be what's filling her up, but that's the problem...I feel like I don't have enough to fill her up at each feed somehow

I was hoping to continue with the mixed feeding and maybe introduce another FF, however I would like to still be able to BF her first thing, at bedtime and during the night at the very least. I'm just not sure it's going to work out that way now Sad

Sure supply is fine. Your boobs are probably in a transition phase to producing on demand with no storing up. Boobs feel like they've gone back to normal. I'm still going twice a day at 20 months (baby won't drink any other milk!).

I would be more convinced if DD looked properly satisfied after feeding. I am not convinced I can hear her swallowing all the time and often think she still seems hungry after a feed... she messes around which doesn't help - she is just so distractible, even if i feed her in her room with the curtains closed.

Maybe I am just being paranoid! [hwink]
