2 month baby with Breastmilk jaundice - lergargy

Ds2 was born at 36+6 & has gained good weight. It was a 1h 10 natural birth without complications. He's been diagnosed with breastmilk jaundice which ds1 never had. His billirubin level was 185 at 3 weeks old & the hospital discharged him without treatment. I exclusively breastfeed usually every 2 - 3 hours. I try & get sun on him but thats a bit difficult when its cold & raining.

Everything I've read suggests this should go in the next month, but I am hoping to get some reassurance that the lethargy goes when th jaundice eventually does.

What is his weight gain like? His birth weight and current weight?

How often does he feed at night?

The main thing about breastmilk jaundice is that you need to maximize how much milk he takes in and this is more of a challenge if he is 'lethargic'.

Have you tried breast compressions? and video Has someone observed you feeding to make sure he is feeding effectively at the breast? If not please see a qualified breastfeeding counsellor from one of the volunteer agencies if possible. It may also be a very good idea to have your baby checked over by a paediatrician, imo.

He was 6lb 15 now he's nearly double his birth weight. He's had really good weight gain. I'm just a but worried he seems so disinterested in his surroundings and sleepy

cityangel - you are prob still in close touch with the health services. Can you ask them not just to check his jaundice, but to give a 'whole baby' check? They will be able to tell you if the lethargy is connected with the jaundice and if it will go. You should be taken seriously.
