normal newborn bf behaviour or silent reflux?

I need the advice of some experienced bfers!

DD2 is 4 weeks old. EBF so far. She tends to feed for very long spells, coming on and off the boob and crying/screaming. She hates being put down and we can only settle her in her crib/basket after carrying her upright in a sling for at least an hour first.

I'd assumed this was just normal cluster feeding and newborn need for closeness. But I've come across some information about silent reflux and now I'm wondering...

There are also some other symptoms: Acidic breath, frequent coughing/spluttering/hiccuping, and doing a sort of retch followed by swallowing and crying.

Normal or worth investigating further?

Def worth investigating, Id talk to your GP or HV for some advice, good luck

Sounds like classic symptoms of silent reflux to me.

Investigate, not normal from my experience (which includes one extremely fussy colicky baby). I'd go for the GP myself.

Have been to GP this morning. She said to review it at 6 week check in 2 weeks as DD2 isn't crying constantly. Felt like handing her the baby and telling her to cope with 24 hours of this if she didn't think the crying was constant enough.

Going to try HV who is lovely.

Good luck cat.
My GP was equally shit when ds2 presented with textbook symptoms of SR.
We ended up at A and E and got an admission for obs and immediate diagnosis, and meds.
In the mean time you can buy Infant Gaviscon OTC, so you could try that. DIdn't work for ds2, he needed stronger meds.

GOod website : 'Crying over spilt milk'.

Keep up the bfing if you can - it is better for them reflux wise as well as everythign else and I have to say it is miles easier in the long run when you have a baby who only wnats to feed little and often.
