6mo bf baby hardly demanding feeds?

Hi,
My dd is 28 weeks old and has been exclusively breast fed until we started weaning at 25 weeks. In the past two weeks I have noticed a massive reduction in breast feeds. Some days my dd will only feed in the morning and in the evenings. I do offer her feeds but she gets upset. I don't want to make a massive issue out of it and put her off breast feeding altogether. I watch for feeding queues but most of the day she just doesnt seem to want to feed. She is now on 3 meals per day and has been for about ten days. However I feel that her solid intake is so small...some feeds only 3 spoonfulls, other feeds more. Is this normal at this stage and is it ok that she has but down her feeds?
She is still up once during the night and takes quite a good feed then.
Sorry for long winded post Blush

No advice, sorry, but will watch with interest as my dd (27 weeks) has also cut back. She's not taking alot of solids though and is up alot at night. I'm feeding her at night (although I'd love to see if she'd just go back to sleep) in case she needs the calories.

She's been running a temp the last few days and I'm hoping it will all pick up again when she's feeling better.

happyseven - we are the same, I feed my DD whenever she wakens. Tonight she was in bed at 7pm but has been up twice since then. I fed her the first time and the second time my DH settled her very quickly without a feed. I very much doubt if my DD would settle during the night without a feed though Confused.

Hoping someone will come along soon Sad

Some babies do cut back a lot when they move to solids, especially if you demand feed for the first few months and feed at every peep, it can be a shock when they actually space out feeds.

However, teething, illness, the fact that early weaning can be a bit of a shock to the digestive system (one of mine was a bit consitipated, even on pure veg) can make them cut back.

At 6-7ms, I would still be looking for at least 4 feeds, maybe 3 if they were really good feeds. And some babies do something called 'reverse cycling' so they start to feed more at night and less in the day.

So all told, I would make sure I offered it still in the day and in a nice quiet place. One of mine was so distractible that I started to just feed her at home from 7 months, so we did a wake up feed, one before we left for the day about 9.30am and one as soon as we came in a about 3.00pm and then one at bedtime. They were all done in my bedroom as it was the only place she would settle to feed.

Hope some of that helps. And if any of you are worried that you baby might be ill, see your GP obviously.

I think same advice as when they are young(er) applies. Watch output and hope they come round soon.

Do you offer her water in a cup at feeds?

You doing the right thing of not trying to 'force' her to feed.

Yes she has water at meals and loves it. I am not worried that she is unwell. Plenty of wet and very dirty nappies. On bad days she Is probably taking 3-4 feeds including a very early morning one so maybe i'm worrying unnecessarily. You are right that it is a shock when suddenly they stop demanding a feed every 2 hours...i almost feel redundant!
Because I have been worried about her milk intake I expressed for a couple of mornings and put my milk in a sippy cup at mealtimes. My dd drank 5oz of expressed milk throughout the day with her meals. I will maybe start doing that. After posting we had a good day breastfeeding wise and she asked for more feeds throughout the day. Babies are so unpredictable! I will take her to the weigh in clinic at start of november to see how well she is gaining weight. Her clothes are smaller so thats a good guide.
Thanks for your replies.
