15 month old prem toddler refusing cows milk

In a nutshell. Started two days ago. I try to make sure she has calcium in her diet (she eats fairly well) but not sure if she is getting enough iyswim. She's never been that fond of milk (was bfed for about 11 months and I noticed when we changed over to formula that she didn't drink as much as other babies her age - ditto with cows milk). So she was drinking 3-4 oz 3 times a day but is now refusing. Doesn't seem to be ill. No other changes - though developmentally there seems to have been a lot going on in the past week (sitting unaided and pulling up to stand). Any tips/advice? TIA Smile

Plenty of other sources of calcium - cheese, yoghurts, smoothies with milk, is she still BF?

Does she have cereal with milk on?

No not bf anymore. It's just hard to know if she is getting enough from the other foods. Plus I was relying on her diet to supplement her low milk intake - now I don't know what to do because she has a very good full-ometer! She eats a wide variety of foods but small portions - because she's petite I guess.

I did the same re: mixing formula with cows milk when DD was 1. I did it very slowly over a 6 week period - ie week 1, 6oz formula in with 1 oz of cows milk, week 2 5oz of formula etc. After the 6 weeks she was happily drinking the cows milk and contiued to have bedtime milk until she was 3.

Keep offering. DS would never drink milk until recently (he's just 3) and now often asks for a cup of milk during the day.
He has always loved cheese, yoghurt, custard, rice pudding etc so I just gave him lots of that. Broccoli is a good source of calcium too.
Smoothies are good too - ripe banana, milk, berries (I buy bags of frozen ones), bit of yoghurt. Lovely! Or just blend up a banana with milk for an easy milkshake.

Thank you both Smile She was fine with cows milk (has been drinking it for 3 months now)so would be strange going back to formula. She likes custard so have been giving her a lot of that. Also likes broccoli - so that's good.

Last night she woke at midnight so dh offered her a bottle and she drank some.

This morning she had 3 oz. So some improvement Smile

can you make hummous? sesame seed paste - tahini - is a fantastic source of calcium.

ladylush · 14/10/2010 21:27

never made hummous but I gave it to dd when she was about 9m and she liked it. Could buy some and if she still likes it, could try making it.
