Feeding cushion(s) for an older baby?

I've got some back/wrist problems partly caused by poor posture and having my shoulders slumping forwards too much of the time. I find feeding 9 m.o. DS can make it worse because my posture is often dodgy then.

At the moment I use a V pillow, sometimes with a normal pillow wedged underneath in the middle to elevate it. If I rest my arm under DS's head, it makes me ache more. I usually sit in an Ikea Poang chair which is reasonably supportive, although I need a cushion in the small of my back.

He doesn't really like feeding lying down during the day, although I do it at night.

Any suggestions as to cushions (or anything else!) which might be helpful for improving my posture while feeding?

TIA

You might like to try him sitting astride your leg like this.

I second the recommendation for saddle hold, though if you are short of torso like me, the baby eventually gets too tall for it Angry

I have a long Theraline pillow that I still use for feeding my 13.5 mo old. I usually end up folding one third of it under itself to build it up on one side.

Yank, you just lean back further. Grin

I use my v shaped feeding pillow and sit on our sofa. Then I rest the pillow on the arm of the sofa. That seems to hold him in the right position and I can then feed arms free if required. Have a pillow in the small of my back too.

Thanks - I'll have a go. :)

Ha - I tried the saddle hold. He looked oddly at me as if he'd never seen a breast before, tried to twiddle the nipple (which I don't allow), took 2 sucks and blew raspberries on it. After a few more raspberries he got fed up and started crying. I put him in the usual position and he had a good feed. Hmm

I'll try again tomorrow. :)

You might have to support your breast with your hand (if you are big of nork like me) to do the saddle hold. How do you stop the twiddling? DS is quite insistent on twiddling, am always fighting him off!

wasting, I can't lean back any further on the sofa, but in the glider chair I put my feet up and he sort of ends up laying on top of me, head turned a bit to the side so he doesn't smother. Fell asleep like that today!

i got a widgey when DS was a few months old, i use it on the couch and he now sort of curls up in it with his head propped up on one side if that makes sense. he is a bit too long to lie right across it at 12 months. :-) DH uses it too for cuddling him for naps, he looks nice and comfy. got mine for about £15 on special somewhere and have fair got my money worth!

i have a ordinary v feeding one but it's gone a bit flat and rubbish.

He's not too persistent with the twiddling, which is a relief. I swat his hand away if it's the one I'm about to feed with, or put my arm over my nipple (if it's the one I'm not feeding with). I guess an alternative would be to treat it like biting and put him down every time he attempts it till he gets the message.

Using my hand to support sounds like a good idea - I wouldn't consider myself particularly large (F cup) but I think he found it a bit odd that the breast was going into his mouth from above rather than from below IYSWIM.

Tried the saddle hold yesterday.

DC3 fed for quite a while like it but at 16 months he is a bit too tall for my comfort. Smile

You learn something new all the time though don't you? This is my third DC and had never heard of it before...
