I am in Cambridgeshire and I would love to train as a volunteer and help other mums. Any advice is appreciated.

I am currently doing a 12 week course at my local Children's Centre. It is a La Leche course and will enable me to become a 'breastfeeding peer supporter' meaning that I can go along to hospitals/children's centres/mother and baby groups etc to help/support mums who are trying to or planning to BF. It will totally voluntary and not a paid job. The course doesn't give a formal qualification or anything, so not sure if that's what you're looking for?

It might be worth you contacting your local children's centre to see if they offer anything like this, or maybe go onto the La Leche website and see if you can do it through there...

Thanks Curly.

When do you do your training? I work 4 days a week so I am hoping I can fit it around that and help on my day off each week/evenings and weekends.

My course is from 1-3 on a Tues afternoon - but i guess it depends on where you do it.

Hope you find something!

I think LLL are looking for leaders in Peterborough at the moment. If you are free on Friday morning there is a LLL meeting in St Neots where you can come and get some more info , details here.

I did mine through the local council (la leche league) contact the council and see when the next course is. I really enjoyed it.

I'm hoping to do a peer suporter course through the loal chilldrens centre (it is delivered by the NCT i think)

I'm currently doing a peer support course through a local children's centre. It's run by an NHS midwife and NHS HV, using the UNICEF Baby Friendly guidelines. It's been fantastic, would really recommnend doing it.

I hear ABM offer remote training, you can do it over the web. I think NCT/LLL/BFN only offer in-person training.

The best way to find out what training is available in your area (if ABM doesn't tempt) is to go along to whatever BF support groups are around, and ask the BFC. She should be able to point you in the right direction.

Details of BfN Training. All the voluntary orgs have info on their websites. You could drop them a line and ask what's going on in your area?
