Anyone tried More Milk Plus, also question about skin to skin

Hello,

Just wondered if anyone had tried More Milk Plus tincture or capsules by Motherlove, what was your experience?

Also question about skin to skin contact. I know it's recommended to increase milk supply. How does that work is it because baby has more opportunity to latch or does it stimulate hormones like prolactin?

Any answers appreciated. I have a 4 month old with unsnipped TT and relactated to be able to BF him and am constantly struggling with supply. Still expressing x2 per day, will prob up it to 3x, but thinking about introducing a supplement or more skin to skin to help as well. I live abroad and have very little help in RL so any answers greatly appreciated :)

Hi there,

Below is a quote I found about skin to skin and hormones.

Mothers who breastfeed experience surges of oxytocin every time they breastfeed their babies. Skin-to-skin contact helps this hormone start and keep working.

Oxytocin also makes the cells that are wrapped around the milk making glands in breasts contract, which starts breastmilk flowing. A baby sucking at the breast triggers milk let downs during breastfeeds and at the same time a mother's uterus contracts to help it get back into shape faster.

I'm not sure about Mother Love, I've read on here of people having used is successfully. I used fenugreek and I think it helped boost supply.

Other things that helped-
lots and lots of feeding!
switch nursing.

Good luck

Domperidone, which is an anti-travel-sickness med, is very good (with expressing and feeding) at bringing supplies back up.

You say you 'relactated' - from a previous BF experience? Or did you stop breastfeeding with this baby?

Why is the TT unsnipped?

Just to check:

  • what happens re: feeding at night?
  • how can you tell your supply is low?
  • have you tried breast compression?
  • when/how often do you switch breasts?
  • how are your nipples? (pain, soreness, cracking?)

btw, are you getting the TT snipped?

Many thanks for your replies.~

Unfortunately they won't snip the TT until DS is 14 or 15 months old as it's not recognised as a BF problem, the only way I can get it done is to come back to the UK but it would be so logistically difficult it's not an option.

CB - thanks for info on skin to skin and hormones.

NQC - I stopped BF this baby at 3 weeks due to nipple trauma and poor weight gain. At 6 weeks read a post online by a lady who BF her TT baby, she said it got better as he got bigger as his mouth got bigger and tongue mobility improved. So at 6 weeks gave it a go, so started using SNS, expressing after every feed etc.

Nipples still slightly red and very slightly tender but not a problem.

Am big Jack Newman fan, so using compression :)

Also nurse at night as often as poss as supply is excellent, usually 2 sessions, 3 if DS willing.

I think supply is low esp during afternoon as DS doesn't drink for long 2- 3 mins and is looking for more soon afterwards

I started switching yesterday as read about it on the other thread.

am one hand typing now, sorry for long post but many thanks for info, any other suggestions greatly appreciated

What a shame they won't snip the tongue tie pom, that seems a bit unfair.

It sounds like you are doing all the right things, so keep up the good work. Smile

p0mbal i have worked with several mums - 1 of triplets who used MMP and had great resutls so worth a go and also increasing your expressing to every 3 hours will help if ds won't latch for long/after he has fed or express from 1 breast whilst he nurses from the other and switching baby and pump. All the best.

Thanks for your replies.

Domperidone not an option as paed not up to speed on this and although i can get it OTC, don't want to use it without medical back up.

Switch nursing seems to be helping- amazing such a simple thing to do.

thanks for your advice re pumping Monsterseye, I'm going to add in another expressing session so I never go more than 3 hours and try feed/express thing as well. Makes sense as it would be like feeding twins.
Might try MMP, next week if not where I want to be supplywise. I just want to feel like I always have ample supply.

Don't want to wish my life away but can't wait till I can give DS juice and a sandwich :)
