Hi it is my 23 birthday soon and as I had children young I have never been to a proper all night nightclub. So my friend is taking me out for my birthday ohh very excited Smile I will be gone from 7pm till 7am. DD 14months still has two feeds through the night sometimes. Can I go out if so how do I do this? I have never been able to express so dd has never had a bottle she has a cup.

My daughter was 13 months old when I had to stay away over night with work for the first time. There were no problems whatsoever.

BigOfNorks · 10/10/2010 11:16

Thank you was your dd still feeding then through the night or not?

Do you feed her to sleep?

BigOfNorks · 10/10/2010 18:19

Yes she feeds to sleep, I went out Friday night (first night in 2 years Shock) though and dp got her asleep. She woke up at about 2am for a feed I got home at 2.30am (I got talking to a friends mum) Only then was dp having difficulty with her he thinks she would have dropped eventually.

If you start now you not feeding her to sleep, she'll probably be fine in a month you know.

BigOfNorks · 10/10/2010 19:00

How do I do that?

Ah yes Grin

The pull-off technique from No Cry Sleep Solution is whereby you gradually put them down more and more awake, until they go to bed fully awake and then fall asleep by themselves.

If you can get DP to do most of the bedtime routine anyway, he could then be the one to put her into bed iyswim.

How did he get her to sleep when you went out?

Bonsoir · 10/10/2010 19:14

Who are you leaving her with?

BigOfNorks · 10/10/2010 19:49

I am leaving her with DP he nursed her to sleep, She is happy to go to sleep for Dp as she does some nights but she wants me when she wakes up IYSWIM.

The sears book has some great tips about dads nursing or providing the final touch so that the child is no longer fed to sleep

Pantley is very good

FWIW, I left DD at 10 months when she was still having a 10 pm feed

She has never really taken a bottle

DH said that she was cross when she realised I wasn't there, but he cuddled her for a while and put her back down and she slept though!

I think if you are there, they kind of accept it more?

wastingaway · 10/10/2010 19:55

Glad to be of help. Smile

Perhaps getting him to put her to bed every night could help. She would associate him with going back to sleep eventually.
And then when she doesn't get milk when she wakes up, she'll start to settle herself back.
(That's the theory anyway)

rubyslippers · 10/10/2010 19:56

If you aren't there

BigOfNorks · 10/10/2010 20:13

Yep I will give it a try I actually feel really guilty for going out like this when she is still feeding.

wastingaway · 10/10/2010 20:16

Don't feel guilty! You deserve to have some fun.

BigOfNorks · 10/10/2010 20:25

Yes she was breastfeeding through the night. And she didn't like expressed milk, but took cow's milk from a cup from the age of 12 months when I wasn't around.
