Does/has anyone fed on only one breast?

And is it possible to re-lactate on the other breast after a period of weeks of not using that side?

I sometimes go for days without feeding on my right side. I've been bfing for 4 years and rarely feed from the right, although when I first started I used to swap sides.

When both babies were newborns I'd feed from both sides, generally settling on just the right side as they got older.

No idea about re-lactating, sorry.

That;s interesting, thanks llareggub.

I'm happy feeding from one side but wonderd if I could get more of a supply going if I used the other side too.

I have heard that in some cultures women only use one side, can't remember where though.

I just feed from one side now. My right was always the least favourite (it's a little inverted) and I just don't offer it now. (DS is nearly one now)

I think it would be possible to relactate - you'd have to offer that side lots and express as well.

I take the view that Mum's with twins just have one boob per baby, so it's probably fine.

I thought I was going to need to with DD (long story) and managed to find several women I knew who had. I think the only possible drawback is getting slightly lopsided. But there are lots of bras designed for women who've had lumpectomies (Marks & Spencer are particularly good) so I'm sure it would be possible to disguise.

But I don't know about relactation... you'd probably need to keep expressing on the breast not being used.

I've only fed from one breast. DD struggled so much to latch on (inverted nipples) and I expressed full time for the first 6 weeks. At that point she managed to latch onto the right breast and I carried on trying with the help of a BF clinic for her to latch onto the left for another few weeks. At that point we decided to just stick with the one, so that we could do it independently, as it were. I still expressed twice a day up to 6 months, from both breasts. At about 5 months I got terrible thrush and she had a little go at the left breast. There was some milk there (in fact, still wear a breast pad now at 14 mo as it leaks a bit!) and as she was more experienced she was able to latch on. She went back to just the right though as had obviously got a strong preference by then. Nobody can tell I'm only using one breast (or they're too polite to say I'm lopsided - don't think I am actually).
Midwives and HVs have all been horrified, by the way. They all said it would be impossible to BF (and I won't even start on the awful experiences on the postnatal ward to get her latched on!). I was extremely fortunate to live near an amazing breastfeeding clinic.

I had issues on one side (as everyone else above has said!) and eventually got mastitis on that side, as a result the taste of my milk on that side changes and DS wouldn't touch it with a barge pole for days.... once I was healed I spent about 2 weeks trying to get him feeding back on that side, but only ever managed a couple of mins at the start of a feed- and gave up... he happily fed off one side for the next 2 months until I stopped feeding.
