i THINK dd has just gone to sleep for the first night with no breast feed. so i think i am in position to stop (my choice - no issues etc) - in the experiences of mn am i best to keep 1 feed a day going for a while or is it better for the appearance of my boos to stop dead? i am hearing conflicting advice and google is confusing me!

a bit vain i know but i have done the 12 months and proud enough now to feel ok about stopping

tia

Nothing wrong with wanting your boobs to look good.

From what I know, most of the sagging that happens to breasts is due to time, and pregnancy. But I've been told that sudden stopping of breastfeeding can cause some problems, because of the engorgement and discomfort.

Because of the discomfort alone, actually, I would recommend dropping at most one feed per week (per two weeks if you tend to get blocked ducts or mastitis) - so if you feed her three times a day now, go down to two for a week, then down to one for a week, etc. No harm in staying at two for two weeks or two months, but don't drop straight from three to none.

ok thanks notquite!

i only feed her up to twice a day now anyway but dropped the early am feed couple days ago and the night feed first time tonight (she's still asleep!). not sure why but just have big urge to stop. before i ramble on what i mean is i'm noy going from multiple feeds to nne so guess it will be ok? boobs dont swell much between feeds anyway now

Good advice above.

IME getting pg again is a very effective way to avoid sagginess, although I'm pretty sure it's a short term gain Grin
