even if it's that yellow sticker "near its use by date" reduction?
And so what do I do about it?

Sorry you had a flustering time and that you have thrush, lola :(

Using points to buy formula is discounting. It's illegal, for all the reasons explained here.

That's why Boots can't do it.

lola0109 · 13/10/2010 12:44

Thanks tiktok it was 6 weeks ago (although my 3rd bout) and the reason behind me stopping. (the thrush not the boots encounter).

I just noticed this thread and it reminded me of that!

Someone else mentioned vouchers earlier too, I think thats the surestart ones for milk and veg? Don't get me started on them either! I'm having a ranting day! Sad

tiktok · 13/10/2010 13:10

Vouchers are 'Healthy Start', lola - why would you rant?

lola0109 · 13/10/2010 23:42

tiktok, its a whole other thread, misinformed and was told I wasn't entitled and now that I have correct information am being told that I was entitled but as my situation has changed (DP gained employment) I am no longer entitled but that I can get backdated! Arghhhh... rant over! :)

CrosswordGeekWantsChange · 13/10/2010 23:53

Lola - Boots have a breastfeeding policy where if you ask you should be offered ANY room to BF discreetly in if you so wish. Doesn't have to be the baby room at all. Consultation rooms/boardrooms/offices etc should have been offered. I would make a complaint if I were you... Might even get some vouchers (although not to use for formula :P)

Quick question, If a private seller is selling infant formula on the net on a certian social media site at a reduced price, to whom would report them?

Consumer direct/ Trading standards not interested as is not a trader.

"What is not permitted?
In brief:

Promotion of infant formula in the general media or in shops is against the UK Law. This includes money off promotions, extra reward points or special displays."

General media is not ok, so what about social media?

If social media is classed as the same then the letter of the law has been broken...

Contact police?

Confused
tiktok · 14/10/2010 15:25

No aw being broken there - it does not apply to private sales.

tiktok · 14/10/2010 15:25

aw = law

KickArseQueenOfTheDamned · 14/10/2010 15:29

Damn, thats annoying, Angry Thanks for the speedy reply tho Tiktok :)

KickArseQueenOfTheDamned · 14/10/2010 15:46

Tiktok, what about this? They are a registered business seller complete with online shop...

Just curious...

tiktok · 14/10/2010 17:41

I thought you meant someone selling a spare can or two on Facebook or Twitter, to friends, as a cheap deal.

Ebay is a bit different, esp from a business.

I don't know if TS would act, but you could report them to eBay.

tiktok · 14/10/2010 17:45

Crikey - there are quite a lot of formula listings on eBay.

I can't think this is safe, anyway. The stuff could be out of date, or from a 'bad batch' discarded by the manufacturer, or been stored unhygienically...

tiktok · 14/10/2010 17:50

Me again :)

To be honest, I can't personally get worked up about an individual selling a few cans of formula at a cheapo price on eBay - it's hardly a promotion or a display the way a Big Name shop does it.

I mean, it's not good - the law is there to protect formula feeding babies, and strictly speaking, anyone supplying a cheap can of formula should guarentee to supply the same product at the same price for as long as the baby involved needs formula.

But I get crosser if Boots, Tesco and others do it, as they have no excuse for not knowing the law, and sometimes seem to cynically ignore it.

KickArseQueenOfTheDamned · 14/10/2010 21:05

LOL! that "crikey" was my reaction! and I agree I'm not worked up about it either, but I was very surprised at how many people were selling it. It somehow seems wrong that people are bidding on it to get it as cheap as poss.

Some of them state " packaging damaged but contents fine" hard to know tho really, another states "just mix 1 scoop with "x" amount of cooled boiled water" thats not right. Surely if they are registered business sellers with ebay shops and VAT numbers the same rules that apply to the supermarkets should apply to them???

34139 blue star positive feedback on one of them, how many of those sales were formula?

I think I'll let Mike Brady know (If he doesn't already) and leave it with him.

Thanks Tiktok. :)
