My nipples hurt too much to feed DD.

She's screaming and screaming and won't sleep.

She's had some cow's milk, not a lot, but some breast milk as well (before it got too much).

Should I just leave her to cry?

If we go in she wants to get up and read a book.

She's 15months btw, and there's a possibility I could be pregnant, so maybe that's why they hurt?

I've tried to cut down / stop breastfeeding for a while and she's having none of it, but it hurts so much. Should I let her cry or wince through the pain? Please help. :(

She will go to sleep eventually and it wont hurt her to cry herself to sleep however it will hurt you to breastfeed her. I would let her cry and I speak as someone who bf for far longer.

YanknCock · 05/10/2010 20:49

Is she in any pain do you think? Maybe teething? If it were my DS I'd be getting out the calpol (he's 13 months and still BFing). I've also let him cry, but then I know he does tend to stop within 5-10 minutes.

loopy, poor you, poor dd.

It's certainly true she will get over being left to cry this once, but it is an unpleasant experience for her and you :(

Can she understand 'mummy all sore' or 'mummy poorly' or something....and accept a suck on your finger, if offered calmly and with some sort of communication that you know it's not the same.

You can say 'cuddles not milkies tonight' or something.

HumphreyCobbler · 05/10/2010 20:51

I would go in an read a book to calm her down and then put her back in her bed. If you are worried about leaving her then just sit by the cot and stroke her back or something. It doesn't have to be a choice between feeding her and leaving her, go for the middle ground.

loopyloops · 05/10/2010 20:51

No, she's not poorly, she just wants her milk :(

She doesn't understand. I tried to explain but she doesn't understand at all. :(

DH went and read to her for a while, put her back to bed and now she's worse. :(

He's going in again. He's got his GF manual out...

I can't do it. I hate it. But It hurts too much. AARRGGHHH! :(

Owww nursing in early pregnancy hurts a lot IME.

First of all two paracetamols for you.

Second - it does get better

Third - you may find that this changes from day to day. I know for me about week six things go better, then went downhill again later on.

I tandem fed for about 18 months so I know what you are going through.

onepieceoflollipop · 05/10/2010 20:54

Is someone with you (sorry I don't know if you have a dp); if not can you get someone to be with you for rl support.

This sounds really hard for you and for her.

Possibly if you go in this will get her hopes up that you will (in her eyes) "relent". if someone else goes in then perhaps they could comfort her?

WilfShelf · 05/10/2010 20:55

If there's a Mr/Ms Loopy, I would send him in to read a story and offer cup of milk. And you get earplugs or ipod and see if she settles.

If there isn't anyone else, I think see if she's accept a cup while resting cheek on breast. When I cut down, DS3 eventually accepted this, or his hand in my top Blush as a comfort instead, and eventually he was happy with just a cuddle...

Good luck - it's really hard.

onepieceoflollipop · 05/10/2010 20:55

sorry, just read your update that you have dh with you. :)

WilfShelf · 05/10/2010 20:56

I dunno about GF in this situationL: your DD is gonna be pretty bereft at first. Could he not sit with her tonight, then a bit less tomorrow night. After 3-4 days it might be MUCH easier...

HumphreyCobbler · 05/10/2010 20:59

when I weaned DD at about the same age, DH would sit with her until she fell asleep. It took up to an hour to begin with, but I knew she wasn't alone, she had a drink and she had cuddles.

Lexilicious · 05/10/2010 21:01

My DS is 14 months and in a phase of waking up after a couple of hours of sleep at night (just as I really want to go to sleep!). We think we're not getting enough food into him during the day so are trying to increase carbs in his last meal before bed. And water, obviously.

Have you made any other changes to routine, solid feeding, etc recently? Along with teeth and possibly picking up on your hormone changes, could be an unsettled feeling for your DD. Sorry am probably not very helpful...

loopyloops · 05/10/2010 21:55

She's gone to sleep now.

Thanks all for your help, that was really horrible. :(

Hope tomorrow's easier. :)

it will get easier, I had the same thing but she left it easier as the milk went so she was really starvign for a bottle and so took it over a week of cuttign down but it was very sore for me, she was nto really into eating her food then so I really ahd to stop or she was gonna starve, I have a 21 month age gap and tandem feeding would ahve killed me as now she wont give up her bottle and can talk! very clearly adn demand and grab so nver mind if i was trying to stop bf now. I found it was good if i cuddles her the same witht he bottle as if it was my breast and I always gave it so she still had the love and touching of breastfeeding
