I know I keep on about him on here, but I'm stunned now to realise ds hasn't gained a single oz in a month.

His eating has picked up, he's shot up in length (just above 50th to above 98th centile) but each week he weighs the same (apart from one week it went down).

Just moaning really and need to talk.

mine did this (three weeks though i think). in all likelihood, he will catch it up. if you are worried about him, get him weighed in a couple of weeks and see. (i don't know the history so this applies if everything has been fine).

NotQuiteCockney · 03/10/2010 19:57

How old is he?

Are there other concerns about his health?

I'm told these days, that once breastfeeding is established, you should only bother getting them weighed when they have jabs ... sounds less stressful.

4m/o

It's a long story with him. A few weeks ago diagnosed with milk/ soy allergies but we're still waiting on the new milk. For a longer term picture he's taken 14 weeks to gain 1 kg.

Couldn't bf for numerous reasons so he's struggled with his weight on soy formula, which is better tolerated than the milk (that led to A&E with diarrhea, rashes etc.)

Just feeling a bit down with the crapiness of the NHS dealing with it.

It makes me so Angry that the system will allow a baby to not be fed properly for a few weeks, while a prescription takes ages to come through. It's just not acceptable IMO

Any word on when you'll get the new milk?

Are you going to complain?

strawberrycake · 04/10/2010 07:27

I got the cc of the hospital letter on Saturday, so I guess GP will open it today, sign within 48 hours and then 1-2 for boots to order. At least it's going somewhere.

I've rung hospital about 5 times, on Wednesday asking for dietician to call back, she hasn't.

I'm torn about complaining, I never know if it makes things worse.

I have a real witch/ bulldog of a hv at my local clinic, decided I'll give her the hospital number, she'll be like a dog with a bone. She's always hounding me about him and how bad he is, so she may come in useful! I can't normally stand her but I'll go and see her. I've been avoiding her.

Completely understood wanting to get everything sorted out before thinking about complaining.

Hope you keep posting, at the very least we can keep you company Smile

strawberrycake · 04/10/2010 07:35

Thanks, I need company. He's just dropped off next to me. He's got a stinking cold poor thing so he's not enjoying sucking and it's like sleeping with a warthog. At 6.30am he grabbed my hair and screamed in my ear for food! 2oz feeds make a very pissed off baby in the morning.

He's sooooooo cute though lying there.

I think using what you normally don't like about HV is a good idea. She'll moan about his weight and you can just turn round and say, So help me then!!
Hope the prescription comes through soon. How come the hospital couldn't give you a px?
Lots of colds around at the moment, I keep hounding dd with that nose sucky thing as I am paranoid about snot staying in and getting infected.

strawberrycake · 04/10/2010 13:45

I don't know why hospital couldn't give one.

I'm annoyed because I've now received the letter from the hospital which again states the importance of him being seen in 4 weeks, stating what will be done. However they don't have another appointment for 11 weeks. One of the reasons for the review was support in weaning him, he's not going to wait until he's 7 months to eat now is he, so I'll be doing that on my own with an allergic baby which is going to be difficult. I have no idea what this means really and how to still balance his diet avoiding soy/ milk or what may contain them. Also it was to decide if he needs more calories, which he probably will since he's gained no weight since the appt. and they were going to do it then!

oh and I took my copy to GP today so they will do prescription, they said it's still 48hrs to write one. fgs it doesn't take that long but they won't make an exception.

There is special 'extra calorie' formula - I've heard someone discussing it in a hospital waiting room before. Not sure if it would be milk based.
Is your px for neocate or nutramigen? I know someone who has a ds on that and she's never mentioned having to wait so long to get hold of it before. I'll check next time I see her.
Have you tried asking in a pharmacy about it if you know the name of the one she's prescribed? Just on the off chance?
You deffo need to see them again before 11 weeks!! I'd get your HV to help you out. It's not right leaving you like this.

strawberrycake · 04/10/2010 14:37

They're talking about concentrating the formula (nutrmigen) rather than extra calorie formula. Basically adding more powder to the water to a set amount.

It's not the milk that's taking so long, it's the px itself.

I just rung them again at the hospital. They know me now Hmm I just wish the receptionists would pass a fucking message on at least, you know they don't, just follow protocol.
