Re useable nursing pads?

Hello,

I'm just recovering from a nasty bout of cracked, bleeding nipples & thrush.

Feeding is much nicer now, but my nipples are still itchy in between feeds, night time is fab as I don't wear anything to bed so the skin can breathe but during the day the itching is driving me nuts.

Would 100% cotton washable nursing pads be better than disposable?

If so are there any that you would reccommend?

Thanks

I had some cotton ones that were very comfy but not great at soaking up leaks, I had to change them several times a day and I wasn't too confident at going out in them. In the end I used a mixture, I would use the disposable ones if I was out for more than a couple of hours but the washables the rest of the time. I was very leaky when DD was tiny though so you might have more luck.

The silk ones are good for healing.

May I suggest breast shells? When I had really sore nipples, shells gave them time to recover because they hold your clothes off your nipples and allow the air to circulate. They also collect and contain any leaks, as long as you remember to take them out carefully! They're more hygienic too because you can put them in the sterilizer or dishwasher.

Medela does breast shells and I bought them off Amazon. (Note, they are NOT the same thing as nipple shields!)

I found reusable pads better than disposables - disposables scratched me & made me itch.

Boots ones were fairly discreet. Avent ones go like cardboard unless you tumble dry them.

I think IIRC that breast shells are only supposed to be worn for a max of 40 mins at a time as they can affect your supply due to pressing on the breast. (It tells you on the packaging, I think.) But they are good for short term relief of discomfort.

Agree wrt breast shells, my bf councellor made me get rid of mine.

Either silk or wool is very healing, but any washables are nicer, I ended up with some fab ones and can;t for the life of me remember where they were from sorry.
