BF and dairy/soya intolerance

Morning!

I'm BF my (nearly) 1 year old DS and not really sure when to stop. As he's intolerant to cows milk and soya, I can't switch to giving that sort of milk. But I'm going back to work so will have to express (he still feeds about 4 times a day)

Anyone in a similar situation - how long did you BF for? Also how many feeds were they on at this age, bearing in mind I'm his only source of milk. I'm worried that too much milk is interfering with his appetite for solids but I can't give him dairy products so not about to cut out feeds!

My DS2 is only 3 months but appears to be dairy intolerant (via me). DS1 (6) is, as are many in my family.

At 1 DS1 was getting 2 BF a day, morning and night, which fitted around work which was fine. He was given some formula from 7 months which I really regret as avoiding it may have helped him later although at the time I didn't know he was intolerant.

You could try him with goat's milk. If he likes it that should be fine. Otherwise can you express some for the freezer? Maybe then you could get him on 2 BF a day when you're at work plus defrosted expressed at midday, and you can BF more on your days off if you want to.

Although 2 a day is enough if you can't express, and again if you want to you can offer more when you're there.

Thanks organic. I was just a bit worried as a few people I know who are BF are giving 2 feeds a day and they can also have dairy. I'll probably express for a midday feed and will keep feeding morning and bedtime. I've got a freezer stash and have ordered a new pump as last one has broken!

I'll try goats milk although not hopeful as have heard that there's a chance he'll react to that too.
