Is this a 12-wk growth spurt? Cranky, not just hungry...

I'm not even sure DS is eating more at all - he's cranky at feeding time - and today not feeding for more than 15 mins at a time. Usually we take a good half hour or more.

Ironically he's just started sleeping through from about 11-6am - so I expect him to be really hungry at 6.30am - but today he only fed for about 10 mins, and then again at 8am.

He has recently settled into a routine quite well but it's out of the window today, no morning nap - just a catnap on me after his last (short) feed.

Most posts I see about growth spurts are lamenting the incessant feeding as it's all about hunger.

Does this still sound like a variation on the same theme?!

Could be teething of course. Mine both cut their first teeth at that age, or just having a cranky day.

My DD started teething at 12 weeks. Feeds became shorter and she was pulling off alot because she was sore. She would cry and cry until she was so tired that she would eventually feed herself to sleep. Try massaging his gums gently before a feed and if this helps then this might be a sign that he is teething.

Yep, could be - growth spurts often mean more fussiness, as well as 'routines' going out of the window (well, I don't know about structured GF-type routines, but growth spurts meant my DS certainly fell out of the 'rhythm' he'd got himself into).

Info from Kellymom here and here.

Babies do get faster at feeding too as they get more efficient.

Thank you so much for the feedback.

I am a bit confused as today he was really screaming at his daytime feeds and not really interested in eating - its feels like he's eating less, not more. He's quite sicky too so I am currently a bit anxious about reflux.

However, he fed well earlier this evening and settled well so fingers crossed. Not sure if reflux would mean he struggled with every feed including the bedtime one.
