Are Dr Brown bottles a gimmick?

Am due in Jan and cant breast feed due to mastectomy so am exploring bottles and formula and need a bit of advice.
Dr Browns are expensive and I gather good for avoiding wind and colic but can anyone actually say they work.
Also what is the best formula to use. There are so many. I looked at them all and was naturally drawn to the hipp organic just cos its organic but is it ok and readily available and good for baby.
Advice please thanks.

IMHO, if you have a windy baby, you can try everything under the bloody sun but they will still be windy! Feeding as upright and as straight-bodied as possible is your best bet for minimising wind. Personally I would start with cheaper, basic bottles, and see how you go.

Just going from what friends have said, Hipp is the cheapest, and seems to be the one that very few babies have had problems with. Someone with better knowledge of formula will be along soon, I'm sure.

Best of luck for January :)

As i briefly said on the antenatal thread, i used them with DS and never had any problems with wind at all. This isnt to say however, that he would have had wind without them.

They were recommended by 3 of my friends, 2 of which had had problems with wind in their LOs. They both transferred to Dr B bottles and the problem seemed to improve (though not disappear altogether)Sorry i couldnt be more precise but couldnt resist adding my 2 pence worth Smile

Hi!

I dont have any experience of Dr Browns but my friend uses the tommee tippee version which use the same concept. They are apparently alot cheaper.

I also dont have any experience of Hipp Organic (god im helpful!) but i will say i havent seen it in many shops so if you decide to go with this brand id make sure that either it is readily available in your local shops or you keep a stock of it incase you run out.

I personally use Aptamil and have had no problems with it and like the fact you can get hold of it anywhere at anytime (ie at garages when everywhere else is shut)

I dont work for aptamil before anyone jumps on me Grin
