Cow & Gate advert banned for iron claims

Thought you might be interested to hear that an advert for Cow & Gate Complete Care Growing Up Milk has just been banned for misleading viewers about how much iron toddlers need to eat to prevent development problems.

You know the one with the 12L jug of cows milk? Even though cows milk is not a good source of iron and your toddler would hopefully be getting all the iron they need from other good sources of iron...

I'm very pleased about this as that ad really annoyed me! And I have a friend who gave up bf at 6 months partly because she was worried her ds wouldn't get enough iron unless he had follow-on milk...

ooh thank god for that, I HATE that advert!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 22/09/2010 13:55

Oh good - that advert has annoyed me for months.

People need to be made more aware that formula companies try and twist the facts rather than accepting what they say as gospel.

EasilyConfusedIndith · 22/09/2010 13:57

Yay!

latrucha · 22/09/2010 13:59

Good. It's bloody annoying.

Any ideas where I'd find the details about the ban?

DanceInTheDark · 22/09/2010 14:02

yay!

ruddynorah · 22/09/2010 14:02

Good.

EauRouge · 22/09/2010 14:03

Good, I hate that advert. I am sick of being told that DD will get anaemia/rickets/ebola virus if I don't give her toddler milk Hmm

I too was glad to see this. THis advert has annoyed me for ages. Every time it came on TV I'd say 'and of course toddler's live exclusively on milk so can't POSSIBLY get iron from any other source' And DP has always wondered about where they got this figure of 8 out of 10 toddlers don't get enough iron.

EauRouge · 22/09/2010 14:07

Press Association

BooBooGlass · 22/09/2010 14:08

Good. It was a bloody ridiculous advert

BooBooGlass · 22/09/2010 14:09

And tbh they shoudl be forced to release an advert apologising for being misleading

Lulumaam · 22/09/2010 14:10

thank you ! it was a rubbish advert

but it's been on for months so i imagine some damage has been done already

crikeybadger · 22/09/2010 14:29

great news - I won't have to scream at the telly every time I see it now.

BornToFolk · 22/09/2010 14:34

Fantastic! I hate this stupid advert.

RubyBuckleberry · 22/09/2010 14:58

that is brilliant - its a pants advert!

PuzzleRocks · 22/09/2010 15:26

Hooray. Common sense prevails.

BertieBotts · 22/09/2010 15:39

BooBoo that would be good. It's been on for so long that I doubt most people will realise it had been banned, just that it had run its course.

HumphreyCobbler · 22/09/2010 15:41

Excellent. It was SO annoying.

PomPotty · 22/09/2010 15:54

phew great news - that ad made my eyes itch

nobiggy · 22/09/2010 15:57

Good. Even DD1 (6yo) worked out that it was bullshit.

CatIsSleepy · 22/09/2010 15:58

hahaha, excellent Grin

cupofcoffee · 22/09/2010 16:02

Good. That advert was really annoying. Agree though that some sort of advert/announcement stating that misleading claims were made would be good.

tellnoone · 22/09/2010 16:04

The damage is done though. It's been on tv for months and unless it's banning is on the national news people will just assume the ad came to the end of it's run. Bugs me that the Asa take so long to make decisions.
