DS is 11mo and breastfed, but I want to start moving him onto cow's milk soon, from a beaker (he's never really had a bottle apart from the odd one here and there, of EBM)

What do people do when out and about? Do you take a container of milk in a coolbag? Or buy UHT mini cartons or something? I know you can get ready-made cartons of formula....

(Or do you just wait until you get home? I worry that he'll dehydrate. He doesn't drink much water but will have little sips from his tommy tippee. TBH he's not really that interested in boobs either; he feeds for 5min in the morning, 3min in the day and 3min before dinner!)

Sorry, that was longer that I meant it to be Blush

I never took cows milk out with me. But I did usually have his empty beaker in my bag.

The good thing about milk is that you can get it anywhere. Friends houses, cafes etc etc.

At that age I just carried a sippy cup of water around with me - he always got that offered with solids anyway so carried it on. He got cow's milk from a year of age if he wanted it but not as a main drink as long as he was breastfeeding. I guess if you're wanting to wean him off breastfeeding then you could try and replace specific feeds but that might be a bit much hassle - at his age nature will probably take care of it gradually :)

We just took water out with us. And she drank milk at home sometimes. She was still bfed though.

Thanks everyone

So maybe I should just carry on bfing but start offering him some cow's milk here and there and see what happens? I think he'll self wean if I do that. Which is fine.

What worked well for us at that age as BFing morning and night, and beaker of milk/water during the day.

at this time of year i doubt you have to worry about dehydration.

Muddle, that's really helpful, I was just thinking that keeping the morning and evening bfs would be a plan.

TBH I didn't want him pestering me for BF during the day. I know some are fine with this, but I had had enough by then.

It also helped him to cope with day-to-day variation.
The BF was always there morning and night, but the cows milk was given by whoever happened to be looking after him (me, DH, childminder).

I do know some friends who struggled to keep their milk supply going when they reduced the feeds like this, but it was fine for us. You prob have a pretty good idea how your body would cope with this.
