freezing/defrosting breastmilk

Hi,

Ive started freezing my breastmilk in freezer bags for when the day comes for someone else to look after ds.

When it comes to needing it how do I go about defrosting/warming it?
For example, ds goes to someone elses house, do I defrost the milk at my house and put it in a bottle at room temp, then they warm it at their house when he needs it?

Thanks

When DS was at nursery and still on breastmilk, I used to defrost the milk overnight at home, then take it in to the nursery already in bottles. They would keep the bottles in the fridge until needed, then warm them up for feeding.

Ahh ok so I defrost the milk overnight, at room temp Im guessing, then put into a bottle in the morning then back in the fridge.

Also, can I add freshly expressed milk to an already frozen bag of milk in the freezer? Otherwise Im going to get through these bags very fast.

I defrosted them in the fridge - overnight should be long enough.

You can't mix up milk of different temperatures, so I wouldn't add 'fresh' milk to something that's just defrosted. But if you have two batches of milk that are both refrigerated, then you should be able to mix them.

You could always keep milk expressed through the day in bottles in the fridge, then put them together in one bag the following morning? But yes, I used to get through a lot of bags when expressing.

I can now look forward to a day/eve out with just DP!
