My Ameda lactaline pump instructions say not to clean the tubing or the things on the end of the tubing that connect to the pump - but surely bacteria will build up there? How does everyone store and clean the non-washable parts of the breast pump?

Also - presumably freezer bags are no longer sterile once the pack (e.g pack of ten bags) is opened - presumably any bacteria build-up would be so minimal this doesn't matter?

The Lactaline diaphragms (clearish bits like top hats) stop any contact between the sterilisable and non sterilisable bits.

I never cleaned to rest of my pump, and it just lurked in the bag I used to take it to work.

The inside of the bags will stay sterile

As CMOT said. The tubing/non washable bits, shouldn't come into contact with milk. On mine (medela lactina) sometime milk does come into contact, but it's one way and the wrong way round IYSIM.

The individual bags are sterile until they are opened.

For storing, I keep the shields etc in a zip lock bag, then bottles, tubing in rest of cool bag. Since LO has always been normal and healthy, I never worried too much about bacteria due to the anti-bacterial properties of breastmilk vs formula. So once assembled, I left it such for the days use. Then stored it in the fridge between goes, doesn't need cleaning until end of day. Just as long as things are clean at the start, you're good to go.

I had a look at the instructions on cleaning your pump online and it said it was OK to wipe clean or clean with mild detergent, rinse andn dry immediately just not immerse in water i.e. avoid prolonged contact with water. (You can swing the tubing above your head to air dry or blow into it).
