DD3 is 20wks old and for a number of reasons i want to stop BF. she has been EBF since birth. with my other DD's i BF until 3 months, with 1 bottle of formula a day from birth. hence they had no trouble taking a bottle. the BF has been going really well with DD3 so i never bothered with a bottle but now wish i had as she flatly refuses it.

have tried expressed milk, 2 different formulas and 3 different teats. if i need to just go cold turkey i will take a deep breath and go for it, but thought id see if anyone had any other top tips first.
thanks.

Not sure if this will help but it worked for us. I unfortunately had real problems in the early dark bf days and to cut a long story short ended up with gashes in my nipples that became infected. Daughter wouldn't take bottle, I went against the advice of the lactivists that I know and used Nipple shields to shield me from the pain. . . God bless nipple shields. DD fed fine with the shields and it seemed to introduce her to a different texture and from then on she's had no problems taking a bottle. Am still ebf with lots of expressed amounts (for trips out, time to self and for administering colief). Good luck.

Thanks, I'll try the nipple shields, fingers crossed that works......I'm going with NUK bottles as that is what DS1 took and I've had the most success with DS2 so far.......just hope there's not too much crying, really can't bear to hear him cry...

Well we had three nights in a row where she happily emptied a bottle, so this evening we decided to try it at the 6.15pm feed instead when she is wide awake. There was a bit of a cockup timing-wise getting the bottle ready, and as a result she was not just awake but crying and angry. Oh dear. But amazingly, she still accepted the bottle straight away, though she did continue to whinge a bit throughout.

So I think we've cracked it. I'm off to organise some nights out!

I tried the nipple shields but he wouldn't go anywhere near my breast, just wanted to play with them and looked very confused......will try again when sleepy or will have to go cold turkey............
