can you try a cup instead? Ds was ebf till blw at 5.5m. At that point we started giving him water in a doidy cup at meals and he took to it really well, taking proper drinks within a week, and we weren't really even using it that often. We're just starting to use it for ebm sometimes as well in preparation for me starting work again.

also can someone else offer him the bottle or cup for a while at first. He probably associates you with bf and so wants that. If you can get him used to the bottle or cup first i'm sure you'd be able to do it soon, though perhaps someone else will know more about this.

My husband has tryed with the same result as me.

Is the milk warm in the bottle? What kind of teats are you using? Might be worth trying a different one - you can get breastflow bottles which are like feeding from a breast.

bheg · 19/09/2010 19:11

Always body temp and have tryed tommee tippee and avent and both with slow flow.

I'd recommend the breastflow ones. I've used them - they look weird but the teat collapses when the baby suckles - bit like a real boob I guess.

MoonFaceMama · 19/09/2010 20:25

The advantage of a cup is that they have to learn how to use one any way and can do from this age. Personally i didn't want to get ds used to a bottle just to try and take it away again in a bit iyswim. But then i don't even know how long they are allowed a bottle for...maybe it's worth it? I guess if you want to give up bf altogether he may like the suckleing of a bottle? I'm really not sure but it might be worth considering the slightly longer term advantages of both options etc.

Sorry this is a bit of a crap post. Raising more questions than it answers. Confused Smile

Can you buy this nipple from any store? Its all with giving a try thankyou.

You can buy online from amazon. You'll need the bottle as well - you can buy just one and see how you get on.

bheg · 19/09/2010 20:44

I know what you mean about the bottle, but in my eyes its the better option to try, it just seems wierd to think of my 6mth old with a cup, but will give any thing a go.

Thank you will let you know how it goes.

obviously it's going off topic but surely they need to be able to use a cup for water with meals anyway? Well whatever you do i hope it works out for you soon. If not keep posting, someone on here will have a solution for you somewhere. Smile

Igglybuff · 20/09/2010 08:01

You're right Moon - but my DS uses a bottle for milk and a doidy cup for water. He's a bit suspicious of milk from a cup and doesn't take big quantities so we use a bottle (he's BF so rarely uses a bottle).
